(Bonus Episode) Are You a Do-Gooder or a Good Doer?

(Bonus Episode) Are You a Do-Gooder or a Good Doer?

This is a really important concept to contemplate and to consider in your life. So many people are out there trying to do good, but they’re doing it from a consciousness of fear, of separation, or projection, instead of from the space of wholeness.

It’s like an unhealed healer or an angry activist.

This is the key here. On some level early on in their life, they’ve been wounded.

That core wound really is a core initiation, and it really is pointing them in the direction of where they are meant to get stronger and ultimately make an impact in their life or in the greater world.

For example, let’s say you were abused as a child, and you grow up having such pain around any form of violence or abuse. Your reaction to it is anger, sadness, bitterness, contempt towards those that perpetrate it, and you have very little, to no, compassion for those that are so caught in their own darkness that they would perpetrate such violence.

You’re still the wounded little child that now just perhaps inhabits an adult body. In all kinds of ways, it’s made you feel like a victim, and perhaps you’ve then put a mask on top of that, because, in many cases, the last thing an abused person wants to admit is that they’re a victim. You might put a mask on top of that to try to act independent and to be strong. You might have tried to compensate by building up these superstructures of your ego that made you actually more separate from others, more distant, more arrogant, elitist, self-righteous, any or all of these qualities.

When we embrace these parts of us that we’re projecting outside of us (the “bad capitalist”, the “bad politician”, the “bad lawyers”, the “bad perpetrators” …or even just in our own family, “the bad parents”, etc.), when we embrace those things within ourselves, now we have real wisdom. We have real power, and we are a healing agency as we move back out into the world.

If we don’t embrace those, we often are driven to try to stamp out or get rid of those things in the world, whether it’s in our family, in our business, or in the larger global culture, and we become a do-gooder. We enact movements and strategies and practices or legislature, laws, and we wonder why we’ve been doing that over and over again and it doesn’t change things.

When you look at where real change starts to happen, real evolution, real growth, it’s because someone somewhere caught this vision, and they became less focused on the problem and more focused on the vision. They stopped merely trying to save the world, and decided to start serving the emerging possibility, the emerging vision, and they worked on themselves. It’s the difference between a Malcolm X before his transition, and a Martin Luther King, Jr.

Look at that and notice where you’re fighting and resisting – being do-gooders – and where you’re actually creating more pain and more problems in your wake, if not for others, then for yourself. You want to take full responsibility for your emotions, your pain, and your projections, and recognize that real transformation is not about setting things right, but about seeing things rightly.

It is the consciousness of wholeness that heals, and when you can see through the appearance of the victims and the victimizers to the truth, to the true principle – the true vision of possibility -then both victim and victimizer are healed and become servants of this higher possibility.

That’s the work of a good-doer. A good doer is one that’s taking responsibility, that’s doing the work within themselves first and foremost, and then as they are transformed, step into that vision, bringing that power and new wisdom. They’re not going out there trying to save the poor, because if you see poor people you’re just being a do-gooder, and you are actually keeping them stuck in a box of poverty.

If you are seeing a problem and resonating with the problem, you’re a do-gooder. If you’re trying to do something good, but resonating with the problem, and you’re adding fuel to the problem. That’s why Einstein said, “You cannot solve a problem at the level of thinking that created it.” You have to rise to a higher level than the problem. You have to rise to the level of the potential. You have to not be a problem solver, but a vision holder.

Martin Luther King, Jr. certainly named the problems, but he didn’t get on the Washington Mount and say, I have a dream today everybody is terrible, and us people of color need to rise up and stop all those bad people, white people. He didn’t say, I have a big problem today. No. He said, “I have a dream. I’ve been to the mountaintop. I’ve seen the Promised Land. I know what’s possible. I know what we’re capable of.” That was where the fire was.

Whatever your endeavor, your mission, your purpose, the ways you want to make a difference in your life, your family’s, your children’s, and the world, don’t be a do-gooder. Be a good doer. Take responsibility for your feelings, your pain, your projections, and your judgments. Own them. Heal them. Integrate them.

See beyond the appearances to the truth of potential. Capture a vision and create a way of life that causes you to come into ever greater vibrational alignment with that vision, so that you can rejoice in the midst of sorrow. You can bring power in the midst of disempowerment. You can carry a consciousness of wealth and abundance and all things possible to the appearance of poverty.

In order to move from being a do-gooder to a good doer is to see people or situations where they’re truly meant to be, not where they are or less than they really are. Meet them where they are and love them where they are, but then lift them to that place of wholeness.

Welcome to Emergence. This is Derek Rydall here, the founder of the Law of Emergence and author of the bestselling book, Emergence. It’s just great to have you here again in this journey of ever expanding, never ending unfoldment of your genius potential, because life is infinite, and you can never express all of it. No matter how good it is, there’s always more to come, and no matter how bad it is, there’s always more good to come. Your potential always trumps your problems. Now, that’s not what I’m here to talk about today in general, but it’s just a good reminder. What we’re talking about today is are you a do-gooder, or a good doer? This is a really important concept to contemplate and to consider and to really look at your life. Now, in the most basic sense, I’ve said before that there’s nothing worse than an unhealed healer, or an angry activist. So many people are out there trying to do good, but they’re doing it from a consciousness of fear, of separation, of projection. This is the key here. They’ve been wounded on some level early on in their life.

By the way, that core wound really is a core initiation, and it really is pointing them in the direction of where they are meant to get stronger and ultimately make an impact in their life or in the greater world. For example, let’s say you were abused as a child, and you grow up just having such pain around any form of violence or abuse, whether it’s animals, children, women, etc. All of which are horrible, let’s be clear, but your reaction to it is anger, sadness, bitterness, contempt towards those that perpetrate it, and you have very little, to no, compassion for those that are so caught in their own darkness that they would perpetrate such violence. You’re still the wounded little child that know just perhaps inhabits an adult body. In all kinds of ways, it’s made you feel like a victim, and perhaps you’ve then put a mask on top of that, because the last thing an abused person wants to admit is that they’re a victim, in many cases. So you might put a mask on top of that to try to act independent and to be strong. You might have tried to compensate by building up these superstructures of your ego that made you actually more separate from others, more distant, more arrogant, elitist, self-righteous, all of these qualities.

Now, you could have gone the other way. You could have shrunk and become invisible, but either one of those is that you have not yet addressed the core wound and the core shadow, and you haven’t integrated it. I once knew an individual, a client that I worked with, that had been sexually abused, and didn’t even fully realize that that had gone on, but had a very hard time hearing about or watching any kind of TV program, movie, even a commercial, that had any level of violence or any kind of inhumanity to animals or children, even like starving children, any of that. She didn’t understand why. It was almost unbearable, until we uncovered the whole issue and story of abuse, and as we delved deeply into that work, what I had an inspiration to invite her to do, because the typical way is to embrace the abused child and love them and all of that, which is good and important, but what we often miss is the shadow side of it, which is the abuser.

In this case, the predator, that was the shadow that emerged for her was the predator. When I first said, you need to embrace and fall in love with the predator, of course, that sounded crazy and even dangerous and scary, but as she began to work with that I remember one day she came back, and she was so alive, so full of life, so full of light and energy and power. I said, What happened? She’s like, I’ve met the predator. I’ve embraced the predator. I love my inner predator. I was like, Tell me more. She said, As I began to really understand the predator within me and integrate it instead of rejecting and judging it, it activated a level of power. She said, Now I can see the way a predator sees, and it was not like a predator like a bad person out there that’s going to prey on other people. It was like in nature there are predators that are largely predators on the food chain, and those are more like the prey. Everybody is a predator to some level of prey, even if all you’re doing is eating the grass. That grass is your prey. We’re talking about the obvious predators, the lion, the tiger, etc. That’s not bad. It’s not bad to be a predator in the natural order of things.

So when she got that, and she embraced that, and she integrated and healed that judgment and that fear, she was able to see and access the power and the potential of the predator, and what that gave her was a level of security and safety and knowledge that she could not become the prey anymore. Now that she had embraced her inner predator she could sense where people were and what situations were. She had like that sixth sense. It was like a superpower, that we all have, but she knew now that she could no longer be the prey and that nobody in her environment would ever be able to be prey either, because she could see it. She could sense it, and she could cut it off at the pass, and she could speak to it with power. She became free, and she was able to watch things, if she wanted to. It wasn’t like she wanted to watch stuff with violence, but it didn’t make her paralyzed anymore. She had reowned this powerful part of her, and she also began to have a level of compassion and understanding for people that do that.

Victims often becomes victimizers. If they don’t victimize others, they just victimize themselves. The energy turns inward. So the wounded often end up wounding, rewounding themselves or others. That’s just the natural thing until it’s healed, until it’s embraced, but most of what we’ve learned to try to solve our problems is by looking outside of us, or by trying to deny or avoid the dark scary parts of us and just fill it with more light, cover it over with an affirmation. It doesn’t work. Just try to kill and destroy the enemy, just destroy and put behind bars all the bad people. How’s that working for us? At least in the United States, I think we have more prisoners than all the Western industrialized countries combined. Is the crime level that dramatically down? So it doesn’t work. You can’t kill the enemy, because the enemy is not outside of there. This is what Jesus meant when he said, The enemy is in your own household, and then he said, Love your enemy.

When we embrace these parts of us that we’re projecting outside of us, the bad capitalist, the bad politician, the bad lawyers, the bad terrorists, the bad perpetrators, or even just in our own family, the bad parents, etc. when we embrace those things within ourselves, now we have real wisdom. We have real power, and we are a healing agency as we move back out into the world. If we don’t embrace those, we often are driven to try to stamp out or get rid of those things in the world, whether it’s in our family, in our business, or in the larger global culture, and we become a do-gooder. We enact movements and strategies and practices or legislature, laws, and we wonder why we’ve been doing that over and over and over again and it doesn’t change things. When you look at where does real change start to change, real evolution, real growth, it’s because someone somewhere caught this vision, and they became less focused on the problem and more focused on the vision. They stepped merely trying to save the world, and they decided to start serving the emerging possibility, the emerging vision, and they worked on themselves. It’s the difference between a Malcolm X before his transition, his transformation, and a Martin Luther King, Jr.

This is what we must do. We must look at that and notice where we’re fighting and resisting and being do-gooders, and where we’re actually creating more pain and more problems in our wake, if not for others, then for ourselves. Instead, we want to take full responsibility for our emotions, for our pain, for our projections, and recognize that real transformation is not about setting things right, but about seeing things rightly. It is the consciousness of wholeness that heals, and when you can see through the appearance of the victims and the victimizers to the truth, to the true principle to the true vision of possibility, then both victim and victimizer are healed and become servants of this higher possibility.

That’s the work of a good doer. A good doer is one that’s taking responsibility, that’s doing the work within themselves first and foremost, and then as they are transformed, they are now stepping into that vision and bringing that power and that new wisdom. So they’re not going out there trying to save the poor, because if you see poor people you’re just being a do-gooder, and you are actually keeping them stuck in a box of poverty. The test they did, the study they did, where they took teachers and gave three teachers three samples of students, and all the students were from the same pool, same sampling. Just average students. They told one teacher, these are average; one teacher, these are above average; and one teacher, these are below average. At the end of a period of time, they retested everybody. The ones that the teachers believed were just average tested pretty much average, just like the sample. That was the control group. The ones that the teacher believed they were below average, they tested below the sample, below the control group, even though they were still from the same sample. The ones that they believed were above average tested some of the highest scores in the district. What was the difference? It wasn’t like one of the teachers had worse skills than the other, or one of the teachers was worse than the other, or one of the teachers had better intentions. No. It was how they saw the students, the container they held them in. The container they held them in determined whether they would rise to fill it or shrink to fit it.

The same is true when we are going out into the world, whether it’s as parents dealing with our children or trying to help our friends and our family members, or trying to help the larger collective. If we are seeing a problem and resonating with the problem, we’re a do-gooder. If we’re trying to do something good, but we’re resonating with the problem, we’re a do-gooder, and we’re adding fuel to the problem. That’s why Einstein said, You cannot solve a problem at the level of thinking that created it. You have to rise to a higher level than the problem. No. He said, I have a dream. I’ve been to the mountaintop. I’ve seen the Promised Land. I know what’s possible. I know what we’re capable of. That was where the fire was.

Again, it doesn’t mean you don’t name the problem. A problem properly diagnosed is half solved. You definitely can recognize that there’s a problem here, that there’s an issue here, but then your work, if you’re going to be a good doer and not just a do-gooder, is to do the inner work so that what you’re seeing, what you’re resonating with, what you’re valuing, what you’re standing for and working on the behalf of, is a solution, is a vision. I think it was Mother Teresa that said, when she had been asked to march in anti-war rallies, she said, No. I won’t march in an anti-war rally, but if you put on a pro-peace rally I’ll be there. We ultimately don’t want to be against anything, because what you fight, you fuel. What you resist, persists. What you are against, you give energy, and you make it more real. Again, you identify the fact that there’s poverty there or that there’s lack there, that there’s abuse there, that there’s war or a problem with your child, whatever the case may be. You don’t put your head in the sand. You see things as they are, but not worse than they are, and then you see them as they really are meant to be. That’s vision. That’s what you work on embodying. So that you are now a light in thatdarkness. If you’re merely being a do-gooder and seeing the problem and resonating with the problem, you’ve just gotten down in the ditch with the people, and you’re of no earthly good to them. You’re not a light. You’re just more of the darkness. Can you see that?

That’s my charge to you. Whatever your endeavor, your mission, your purpose, the ways you want to make a difference in your life, your family’s, your children’s, and the world, don’t be a do-gooder. Be a good doer. Take responsibility for your feelings, your pain, your projections, your judgments. Own them. Heal them. Integrate them. See beyond the appearances to the truth of potential. Capture a vision and create a way of life that causes you to come into ever greater vibrational alignment with that vision, so that you can rejoice in the midst of sorrow. You can bring power in the midst of disempowerment. You can carry a consciousness of wealth and abundance and all things possible to the appearance of poverty, and you don’t speak to people that are experiencing poverty as being poor victims. You speak to them like the teacher that believed these were the highest ranking students in the thing. You speak to them in terms of their capacity, their potential, that they are just as abundant and powerful and capable as anybody.

That doesn’t mean you don’t feed them. That doesn’t mean you don’t cloth them. That doesn’t mean you don’t meet them where they are and have compassion. I’m not saying go to people that are suffering and say, You’re not suffering; you’re perfect. No. That would be abusive. That would be mean. That would be uncompassionate. You can definitely recognize; I see that you’re suffering. How can I help alleviate your suffering? If they’re hungry, you feed them first. Then you begin to lift them up. Jesus didn’t just walk around telling everybody the truth principles. He healed them. He fed them. Then he preached. He didn’t preach to them and say, you poor things. He said, Ye are gods and greater things than these shall you do. Do you know who you are? You are the light of the world. Same with Buddha. Same with all the great masters. We do not allow ourselves to see people as less than they really are. We meet them where they are. We love them where they are, but then we lift them and see them where they’re truly meant to be. That moves us from being a do-gooder and makes you a real good doer.

(Bonus Episode) The Solution State of Mind

(Bonus Episode) The Solution State of Mind

As you begin to grow in this awareness of the Emergence principles and how life really operates, you start to discover that what you do in and of itself is not going to determine the outcomes you get.

Ultimately, as the old metaphysical axiom says, to he or she who is right in mind they can do all the wrong things, and it will often still turn out right, but to he or she who is wrong in mind they can do all the right things, and it will still turn out wrong. We see that even as Einstein said, “You cannot solve a problem at the level of thinking that created it.”

We understand in metaphysics and quantum physics, that the frequency or the vibration that you’re at is what actually determines the outcome. The good that you want, the answer, the solution, the opportunity, the abundance, etc. it’s already here. Much like you are inundated with radio broadcasts right now, and in the midst of those broadcast somewhere your favorite music is playing, but it’s not yet a manifest part of your experience. When you tune the dial of your frequency so that that receiver or frequency matches the frequency where that music is playing, that station becomes manifest. You have what I like to say a manifest-station. The music was already happening, but you had to make it welcome. You had to dial into that same frequency. The distance between you and your music is a distance in frequency.

The same is true for your solutions. For whatever challenge you face, the solution is a reality that already exists, but it exists at a higher or different frequency than the frequency of the problem.

Problem, when you understand it means emblem – it’s a symbol. A problem or challenge is a symbol of a state of consciousness, a particular frequency, and you can never solve a problem, any more than you can solve a frequency.

If you’re turned into station K-LACK, and it’s playing the blues all day, or it’s gossiping and complaining and talking about all this negative stuff in the world, making you feel horrible, that’s a problem. You can’t solve that problem at that frequency. You can’t solve that frequency. That’s what’s playing on that station. So, how do you solve it? You have to tune up the dial to station K-RICH, to a higher frequency.

When you tune out of K-LACK into K-RICH, the problems you are experiencing on K-LACK they’re no longer there! That particular music becomes unmanifest. It goes back into the invisible, inaudible state that it was to begin with, and the music that you really want to hear, that beat of abundance, that symphony of success, now becomes manifest. It becomes a part of your experience.

So a problem cannot be solved. It exists. It’s a frequency. Just like ice cannot be solved at the level of temperature where ice exists; 32 degrees Fahrenheit or below, you have ice. No matter what you do to get rid of that problem, you’ll still have the problem if you’re still living at 32 degrees. You can pour hot water on it, but what’s going to happen? It’s going to become more ice. You can chip it away. What’s going to happen? Condensation will produce more ice.

That’s why so many of our attempts to solve problems individually, or in a community, in the government, a corporation or a culture, etc., don’t often work, because we are still at the same frequency, and just moving things around at that level.

We’re reorganizing the people, places, and conditions, but it’s still coming from that level of thinking, from that perception of lack, limitation, fear, or separation. We may try to cover over all of that by controlling or manipulating more, by adding more on top of it, or by having stricter rules… All of that is this substructure of coping, survival, and defense mechanisms we put on top off this vibration or frequency that’s creating the problem. What we find is that the same problem breaks out in new ways.

So how do you deal with it then? You must rise above that temperature. When you rise above 32 degrees, what happens to the ice? You don’t solve the ice – the ice dissolves.

When you tune to a higher frequency on the station you don’t solve the problem or change the station of K-LACK. That’s still broadcasting, but it dissolves out of your experience, and what manifests is that higher frequency you’re now tuned into. That’s also why Einstein said, “Arrows of hate have been shot in my direction many times, but they no longer can touch me or hurt me, because they come from a world I no longer inhabit.”

[bctt tweet=”Problems aren’t solved; they dissolve as you evolve.” username=”derekrydall”]

At the vibration of love, hatred doesn’t exist. It’s not that love solves hatred. It’s that hatred is an expression. You can’t solve hatred at the level of hatred, which is why two wrongs don’t make a right. It’s also why you can’t fight fire with fire (except in the forest, which actually in that case fire works.) The key is that that’s why so many of our attempts to go to war and try to crush terrorism doesn’t work, because we’re still operating, in many cases, at the same level of the problem. What you resist persists, what you fight you fuel.

So, to move into the solution state of mind, you must understand that all solutions exist outside of the frequency or circle of the problem, and you want to, as quickly and easily as possible, move yourself into the frequency of the solution. You want to bring yourself back into a congruent, receptive solution state of mind. That’s where the answers are, where evolution, real healing and growth happens.

Welcome to Emergence, this is Derek Rydall, your guide on the side instead of the sage on the stage, author of the bestselling book Emergence, and founder of the process the Law of Emergence. It’s just so great to have you here, as we take another deep dive on this journey of engineering the full emergence of our life, our potential, and our deeper purpose. Today we’re talking about the solution state of mind, and this is really a powerful thing to understand, because, as you begin to grow in this awareness of these principles and how life really operates, we start to discover that what we do, although it’s very important to take action, it’s an extension of consciousness, it’s a dimension of consciousness, that was we do in and of itself is not going to determine the outcomes we get. Ultimately, as the old metaphysical axiom says, to he or she who is right in mind they can do all the wrong things, and it will often still turn out right, but to he or she who is wrong in mind they can do all the right things, and it will still turn out wrong. We see that even as Einstein said, You cannot solve a problem at the level of thinking that created it.

We understand in metaphysics, quantum physics, that the frequency or the vibration that you’re at, that’s actually what’s determining the outcome. I’ve used the analogy often that it’s already happening. You have what I like to say a manifest station. Now, where was the music before you tuned into it? It wasn’t in the distance. You didn’t have to take your radio and run down the street and catch it. It wasn’t in the future. You didn’t have to sit there and wait for it to show up, and when you tuned into that station you didn’t have to make the music happen. The music was already happening, but you had to make it welcome. You had to dial into that same frequency. The distance between you and your music is a distance in frequency.

The same is true for your solutions. For whatever challenge you face, the solution is a reality that already exists, but it exists, hear this, at a higher or different frequency than the frequency of the problem. Problem, when you understand it means emblem, it’s a symbol. A problem, a challenge, is a symbol of a state of consciousness, a particular frequency, and you can never solve a problem, any more than you can solve a frequency. Right? I mean, that’s just a frequency. If you’re turned into station K-LACK, and it’s playing the blues all day, and it’s gossiping and complaining and talking about all this negative stuff in the world, and it’s making you feel horrible, that’s a problem. You can’t solve that problem at that frequency. You can’t solve that frequency. That’s what’s playing on that station. So how do you solve it? You have to tune up the dial to station K-RICH, to a higher frequency. When you tune out of K-LACK into K-RICH the problems you are experiencing on K-LACK they’re no longer there, right? That particular music becomes unmanifest. It goes back into the invisible, inaudible state that it was to begin with, and the music that you really want to hear, that beat of abundance, that symphony of success, now that you’re tuned into that, it becomes manifest. It becomes a part of your experience.

So a problem cannot be solved. It exists. It’s a frequency. Just like ice cannot be solved at the level of temperature where ice exists. 32 degrees Fahrenheit or below, you have ice. No matter what you do to get rid of that problem, you’ll still have the problem if you’re still living at 32 degrees. You can pour hotwater on it. What’s going to happen? It’s going to become more ice. You can chip it away. What’s going to happen? Condensation will produce more ice. So no matter what you do you’ve always got the problem, the proclivity of the problem, the propensity of the problem, the worry, doubt, and fear of the problem, because you’re living at the level of the problem, at the frequency. As Einstein said, at the level of thinking that created it.That’s why so many of our attempts to solve problems individually, in a community, and in the world, in the government, etc., in a corporation or a culture, the reason why they don’t work often is we are still at the same frequency, at the same level, but we’re just moving things around. We’re reorganizing the people, places, and conditions, but it’s still coming from that level of thinking, from that perception of lack, limitation, fear, separation, whatever, and now we’re going to try to cover over all of that by controlling more, by manipulating more, by adding more on top of it, by having stricter rules. All of that is this substructure of coping, survival, and defense mechanisms we put on top off this vibration or frequency that’s creating the problem. What we find is that the same problem breaks out in new ways. It’s another reason why for the common prisoner the recidivism rate is so high. The problem itself hasn’t been solved, because it  never can be.

So how do you deal with it then? You must rise above that temperature. When you rise above 32 degrees, what happens to the ice? You don’t solve the ice. The ice dissolves. When you tune to a higher frequency on the station you don’t solve the problem and actually change the station of K-LACK. That’s still broadcasting, but it dissolves out of your experience, and what manifests is that higher frequency you’re now tuned into. That’s also why Einstein said, Arrows of hate have been shot in my direction many times, but they no longer can touch me or hurt me, because they come from a world I no longer inhabit. At a frequency there are manifestations, condensations, coagulations, formations, and they exit at that frequency. At 32 degrees and below you have ice. At other degrees you have steam. You have gases. You have solids. You have different expressions at different levels. Right? That’s just the way it is. So you cannot solve it. The problems don’t get solved, they dissolve as you evolve. So the only way to solveour problems is to actually take our attention off the problem long enough to rise in conscious, vibration, or frequency to rise outside of the circumstance or the circle of the problem, and as we evolve the problems dissolve. They literally cannot exist at that new higher or different frequency. They cannot exist there. That’s not where they live. Ice doesn’t live at 50 degrees. It lives at 32 degrees and below. So if you start living at 50 degrees, you’re not going to have ice. You’re not going to have the problem of ice.

At the vibration of love, hatred doesn’t exist there. It’s not that love solves hatred. It’s that hatred is an expression. Now, I could go down the rabbit hole and explain to you that really hatred is actually on the spectrum of love, but let’s not go there right now. Rather to understand that hatred is an expression or manifestation or formation of a certain vibration or frequency. You can’t solve hatred at the level of hatred, which is why two wrongs don’t make a right. Which is why you can’t fight fire with fire, except in the forest, which actually in that case fire works, but, again, that’s a different physics issue. The key is that that’s why so many of our attempts to go to war and try to crush terrorism doesn’t work, because the actual problem, we’re still operating in many cases at that same level. We’re still killing and fighting and hating and having a justified reason for killing, fighting, and hating. There is no justification. Justifying it doesn’t change the frequency. In many cases it keeps you stuck at the lower frequency.

It’s also why when we’re trying to solve our own problems, our own challenges, but we’re stuck at the level of the problem, we are struggling to figure it out, to make it better, to improve it, to fix it, and we find that either it gets worse, which is often the case, or we solve what appears to be this problem of lack in one area, and it breaks out in another area. We finally solve our problem of lack, and we get a job, and then our plumbing goes wrong, and we have to use all that money we just made to pay for the plumbing. We finally solve our problem of not having enough and get a check for $500, and then our car breaks down, and it costs us $500. How many of you have experienced that? It’s because you’re just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. You’ve manipulated conditions. You’ve manipulated mentally, emotionally, and physically, but fundamentally you’re still living at the same level of consciousness, the same core pattern of your heart or mindset, which is then producing another version of that same frequency. Now it’s just showing up in your bank account, and then next month it shows up in your body, and next month is shows up at your business, and the next month it shows up in your relationship. You’re just rearranging, moving it from one place to the next, but the problem persists. Ultimately it tends to magnify and get worse. So how do you solve a problem? You have to rise above it. you have to get outside of it. I often use the analogy of a racecar driver. A racecar driver, they learn that when you’re spinning out of control towards a wall, which is the problem, if you focus on the problem, aka the wall, you’re going to hit it. It seems very counterintuitive. You feel like, I’ve got to look at that wall to make sure I don’t hit it, but if you do, you will, because the hands follow the eyes, and you turn right into it. So instead you’re trained to look away from the wall and to look towards the road, look towards the finish line, look towards the next turn. Look to where you want to go, not what you are spiraling out of control towards. Look to the solution, the opportunity, the vision, not towards the problem. Sometimes when you’re learning this the trainer that’s training you how to drive has to literally grab your head and force you to look, because everything in your instincts has been conditioned to focus on the problem, to focus on the wall. It feels utterly unnatural to not look at that wall, because otherwise you’re going to crash. Of course, again, the irony is if you do, you are going to crash.

So you look away, and as you look away your hands follow your eyes, and you start to turn out of the spin and pull out of the spin. Interestingly, even when you do that, depending on the momentum you’ve got in that spin, you’re still sliding towards the wall. You have to be aware of that, because you’re turning, you’re focusing on the solution, on the road, but you’re still sliding towards the problem, and there’s a great temptation. It’s a very precarious moment where you might go, it’s not working, it’s not working, and then you look back to the wall, and you get to observe as you crash into it. It takes a degree of courage, degree of trust, and ultimately discipline to become solution focused, not problemfocused, to be a vision holder, not a problem solver.

That doesn’t mean you aren’t aware of the challenge and the problem. It doesn’t mean you’re not aware that there’s a wall there. You are aware of it, but your focus, your attention is on the road, on the solution. So this moves us into a solution state of mind is where the solutions exist. I know that sounds obvious, but it’s not obviously seen or understood when we’re in the moment. Again, it seems counterintuitive to not focus on the problem. It seems from our defensive nature that if we take our eye off the problem it’s going to get us. It’s going to sneak attack us. It’s going to take advantage of us. That’s an old artifact of our evolution where we were trained to see the problems very quickly in any new environment. The rustling of the branches means there could be a sabretooth cat there, or particular elements left behind could show that there was an enemy encampment before, etc. So we’ve been trained and conditioned as a matter of survival, but what helped us survive as a human experiment is now the very mechanism that puts us on the brink of extinction. If not total human extinction, it stagnates us and keeps us stuck at the level we are in our own individual lives, our own individual businesses. So to move into the solution state of mind we have to understand that all solutions exist outside of the frequency or energy or circle of the problem, and that we want to as quickly and easily as possible move ourselves into the frequency of the solution. Again, I’m going to say that. What we want to do when we encounter a problem is instead of reacting to it and resisting it, what you resist persists, what you fight you fuel. If you fall into quicksand and you fight it, it pulls you down, and you die. If you are in a problem, and you wrestle it, fight it, resist it, it pulls you down. It anchors you to that energy of the problem and makes it more easy to get stuck there, and then most, if not all, of the things you try to do to solve it, first off all, we’ll most likely not solve it, but if it seems to temporarily create a solution it’s almost always a stopgap solution. The problem almost always returns, and in many cases it returns with even more velocity and more ferocity, because all of that resistance. Think of it like holding a beach ball underwater. You’re using all this energy now to hold the problem down and create this solution on top of it, and the minute you relax, that ball flies up and hits you in the face. You’ve all had that experience.

This is not a game of Whack-a-Mole. You just keep hitting the mole, and another one pops up, another one pops up. That’s not how to really solve problems. As Gandhi said, We must be or become the change we want to see in the world, and that includes our own individual world. So when you’re in a problem, you want to as soon as possible shift your awareness and attention to asking the question, not how do I solve the problem, but what is the change I want to see in the world? What’s the change I want to see in my world? Let’s say suddenly you get a bill, and it’s this huge bill, and you can’t afford it, or something like that. You get worried, or you get frustrated. You get angry. Then you try to make calls and complain. This isn’t right. There’s a mistake, or frantically try to scrounge up new opportunities or clients or whatever the case may be. You’re operating at the level of the problem, and energetically and vibrationally you’re tuning and staying tuned in, and even creating a preset on the dial of station K-LACK. Instead you want to go take a breath, and ask, what is the change I want to see in my life? You might immediately go, I want to see this bill paid, and that’s okay. That’s a start. Then go another step further. What is the change I would want to see and need to see in my life in order to pay the bill? Then you sense into that. What you hear is, I have more money. You keep asking, how much more money? If somebody gave you a dollar, that would be more money. How much more? Let’s say the bill is $500. I have at least an extra $1,000. You just sit with that, and you go, is that all the change I really want? What other real change is this challenge inviting me to open up to? As you breathe and sink into it, you kind of hear or feel, I really want to have a level of financial freedom. I don’t want to have to worry about money anymore. Notice that little subtle shift. I don’t want to have to worry about money. You’ve just turned your head back towards the wall again about what you don’t want. That’s the problem. So you go, but what do I want? I want to have enough that I can joyfully express my life, I can have more time with my family, or I can have more time to do creative stuff. Now you’re getting back to the solution. You’re turning back towards the road, towards the finish line.

I want to have enough money that I can spend time doing the things I really want, being with the people I really want, being the person I want to be. As you keep unpacking that, you ask specifying questions. If I got to be the person I wanted to be, who would that person be? As you sense into that, you hear, I’d want to be a person of peace. I’d want to have more joy. I want to be more playful, creative, spontaneous. Brilliant. Write that down. You go, who are the people you’d want to spend more time with? I want to spend more time with my kids, with my husband, with my friends. What would that look like? I would go on that vacation, or we would have a date night. You start to describe and articulate that. What else? I’d want to be doing more of the things that I really want to do with my heart and my art. What specifically? I really want to write that book, or paint that painting, or put on that art show, or start that business. Great. Write it all down.

Now stop for a minute and notice, what have you just discovered? This problem called this unexpected bill was really carrying a message. Your problems are your prophets. They’re bringing you a prophecy, a message of the vision that’s trying to unfold. So this problem is really trying to open you up to discover there’s a larger life that you’re being called to live, that you’re aching to live, that’s seeking to emerge, but all your coping mechanisms have kept you playing small. So now this problem shows up to crack you back open and say, there’s a bigger vision here. There’s a bigger possibility. Your heart has a deeper desire. You’re meant for more. You’re capable of more.

Now you articulate that vision, and even notice as you start to move your energy and think about the bigger vision and dwell on it and imagine it, how do you feel? When the bill came in you constricted. Your heart closed. Your mind clamped down. Your body felt constricted. As you start to move and ask these emergence questions, these solution focused questions, these vision based questions, you feel your heart start to open again, your mind start to expand, your body relax. Energetically, vibrationally, you’ve just moved up a few degrees. You’re maybe not at 32 anymore. Maybe you were at 10, and now you’re at 20. You might still be in the realm of ice, but you’re moving up the scale. You might not be on K-LACK anymore, but you might be still in static, but at least you’re not hearing the blues and all the gossip. It’s just static. It’s not entirely tuned into K-RICH yet, but it’s still an improvement. You follow? Now we take it the next step. Now you really feel into that vision. You give yourself the time to really visualize it, to really feel what it feels like to live that vision, to be that person, and then you do the visualization-vibration process, where you breathe into that energy, and as you exhale you let it expand to fill your body, and then breathe and exhale again and radiate it into your life, radiate it to this seemingly challenge, and just feel yourself as a radiant being of this energy. Now we move. We are now in what’s called a more receptive, available, congruent state of mind, and we can now ask the question, from this place, what am I called to do, to do more of, to do less of, or to do differently, to bring about a solution with ease and grace and dignity? From that place it’s like you’ve now tuned into a higher quality station, and there are higher quality answers. First of all, you don’t just merely receive the answer, but vibrationally you are now becoming the answer. From that place you might be inspired with an idea, a bit of guidance, direction. So that’s the next stage.

The first stage is you’ve hit the problem, breathe, turn your attention toward asking those solution based, vision based questions. Then as you do that you continue to ask specifying questions until you’ve unpacked a vision for your life, the change you want to see in the world, in your world, or beyond. Now you start to have a sense of a vision. You write it down, and then Step 3, you visualize. You use the angel of your imagination to activate the visionary vibration, to feel what it feels like to already be the answer, to be living the solution, and even beyond a mere solution. Notice, it’s no longer just pay the bill. It’s a vision of a life of so much more joy and abundance and possibility. That expands your energy, and then the fourth step you radiate it, really that’s still part of the third step. You radiate it. You fill yourself with it. The fourth step is you now ask from that new state of mind, that solution state, what activity, what am I called to do or not do, to do more of or less of or different, in order to bring about a solution to this with ease and with grace, even with peace and joy? Then you sit with that, and you allow it to bubble up.

At any point in this you might get snagged and pulled back, because you’re still sliding towards that wall to some extent, because the problem has not yet been solved. The temptation will be to get frustrated and go, I just got to solve this problem now, and you just turn back to the wall. When that happens, you breathe again. You come back. You breathe again. You turn your attention back to the road. You keep doing that and asking that question, and then journaling what comes up. Okay?

The fifth stage is you want to ultimately and eventually design a way of life so that this is where you live from on a regular basis. So you’re not just waiting for problems to activate this process, but you take the great vision of your life, and you start to design a way of life around that visionary vibration, around the qualities of feeling and being, and the proactive actions of doing. So that you are now thinking and feeling, walking and talking, in a way that is integrity with this larger vision. In other words, most of your attention is focused on the finish line and racing around that track, versus more and more of your attention focused on the wall that is always just out of your periphery that you could crash into any moment. Most of your attention is focused on the road, on the way, on the finish line, on the vision. That becomes the way of life, and you’re just going around and around and growing and winning the race of your life on a regular daily basis. That becomes a way of life, and if you want to have more in depth understanding of how to do that, I highly encourage you to check out the podcast in here that talks about the LIFT practice, which stands for Living In the Feeling Tone of your vision. That allows you to really take this to the next level.

There’s another level to which this is very valuable. If you’re a coach, a healer, a teacher, or a parent, even a friend of someone, when a friend or a child or a client comes to you, and they’re stuck in the problem, or a spouse, one of the worst things to do is immediately try to solve it and give them answers and solutions at that level. They’re not yet receptive or available or congruent. So instead what you want to begin to tease out of them in a subtle way is to move their attention toward a higher, more congruent, more quality state of being. So they might come to you, a child, like, That jerk Steve at school; he’s such a jerk. Maybe the child comes to you who’s had a fight with a sibling, Bobby is such a mean brother. I hate him. It’s like, What did Bobby do? Tell me what Bobby did, or What did that jerk at school do?You can’t judge people. Don’t talk about those people like that. All of those are adding fuel to the fire. It’s resistance, and they won’t be able to hear it, or they’ll just feel unseen, unheard, unloved, and they’ll rebel. Instead, you move them slowly, and sometimes creatively and dramatically, into being solution oriented or being receptive. You start with, Wow. You’re really upset, aren’t you? So now they feel seen or acknowledged. That’s a step towards them feeling a more positive feeling tone. Do you see that? Then you might say, Tell me what happened. That does bring them back into the problem, but it’s part of them feeling heard, which is like oxygen to a person who’s struggling. So you really listen. That must have been really hard or really scary, or that must really hurt you when they did that.Yeah. It really did. They kind of take a breath, and you’re like, Honey, I’m so sorry you experienced that. I’m so sorry you’re feeling that. You embrace them, or whatever seems appropriate that they’re available for, and now that’s the next level. Now they feel seen, they feel validated, they feel understood, heard, maybe even loved, and you’ll notice they start to calm down a little bit. They might even say, What do you think we should do about it?

Now, it depends on the situation, but let’s say they’re complaining. Let’s say your child comes to you, or a client, and they’re struggling with some issue, like Look at my report card. Look at, I got a C on there or a D, or I lost a client. I lost one of these people in my business, or I didn’t make enough money this month, or whatever the problem is. You might go, That’s really rough. That’s really hard. I really understand that. Then you might say, Tell me more about your business. You’re just expanding the conversation. They might be like, It’s this kind of a business. We do these kind of things. That’s really interesting. Remind me again, why are you doing this business? What is it about it you love?I mean, it’s my mission, my purpose, to help people or create this kind of product, or make this kind of difference. That’s beautiful. What really inspires you about that? Where did that come from? When I was a kid,or I see people suffering, and I just feel like I can make a difference.Have you made a difference sometimes? Tell me about some of the moments you have.Of course, I’ve got a lot of people that are happy clients.Tell me about it. When’s the last time you really felt like you made a positive difference? You just keep teasing it out. Tell me about what’s working in your business. Whatever. You begin to get their attention focused on, I mean, this is great, and I love this, and I’m passionate about this. You notice them start to breathe, start to relax, start to expand. You feel the energy. You’ve now put them in a more receptive solution state of mind. They are more congruent now energetically, emotionally, mentally, with the place they want to live in, with the place they want their life to go. Do you see? Then you can even go a little further and say, What would be your ultimate vision of this business or of your clientele? Now you extend them to even a grander vision and really get them pumped up and on fire with it. Now from that place you go, So from this place, notice how you’re feeling right now. What’s one thing you could do to grow your revenue this month, or to get a new client? Now from that more receptive place they’re actually more available to their innate wisdom, to their innate genius, to that perfect plan within them. You see that?

Same thing with a child. They’re focusing on that C or that D on their report card, and they’re beating themselves up, or they’re scared of what dad’s going to think, and you’re like, Tell me. Do you like that math class? No. I hate it. It sucks. What about these other classes? Do you like any of your classes?I really like art, or I really like English. I love reading.Tell me more about that. What do you love about that? I’d love to hear. They might resist. They might go, I don’t care about that. What am I going to do about this C?I totally agree. We’re going to figure that out, but I’m just really curious, because I’m trying to help see what else is going on in your school, because there might be a clue there for us to help you discover why that C happened. So I’d just love to know what class you love.I really love English. What do you love about it?I love reading.Tell me about something you’ve read lately that you really love.We just read Tom Sawyer, and Tom Sawyer is so cool. I wish I could be like Tom.Wouldn’t that be fun? How would you be in your life now if you could be more like Tom?I certainly wouldn’t let people tell me what to do, and I would really honor my vision, or I would create something or go on a great adventure. What kind of adventure would you like to go on?It’d be kind of cool if we could go on river trip or something. That would be really fun, wouldn’t it?

You start to get them excited, and then you can expand it. If you could bring this kind of adventurous spirit to your school, to your classes, what would you want to do?I don’t know. I’ve been thinking I’d like to do this or do that. You are growing their awareness of what’s possible. You’re making them connected, more congruent, and now you say, What do you think you could bring that we’ve been talking about, like this Tom Sawyer adventurous? How would Tom Sawyer think about this C on his report card? Tom Sawyer wouldn’t care. He wouldn’t let that C get him down.Tom does sound pretty cool. He’s really cool.So maybe that’s great place you could play and act like you’re Tom Sawyer, and not let it get you down. What else would Tom Sawyer do if he knew that he wanted to bring that grade up? It’s not that big of a deal, but what else might he do?Tom Sawyer would find some creative or adventurous way to deal with it, and on and on and on, until you help the child discover their more receptive congruent place, or the client, or the friend, etc.

Now, if it’s a spouse, a person that is truly your equal, or a friend, and you’re not their parent or authority, and their not your client, it’s a little different in the sense that you’re not teaching them. You’re not there to be their coach or their teacher. You’re there to be their friend or their lover. So you just want to be mindful of that. You can still ask questions that open up and really listen and let them express themselves and feel heard and seen and valued and loved, and sometimes that is enough. If you’re a man, and you’re talking to a woman, most of the time the woman doesn’t even want you to solve the problem. The woman just wants to feel heard and seen and held and loved. Then she’s fine, and she’ll go solve it. There might come a moment where she’s feeling better, she’s feeling loved, and you say, Is there anything else I can do to support you? Anything else you want to talk about to try to solve this? If not, that’s fine, but just want you to know I’m here. She might say, Thanks, I’m really good now. It’s not that big of a deal after all, or I don’t know. If you have any ideas, I’d love to hear them. Whereas if you start right out of the gate with that she’s not going to be able to hear it, because she’s gasping for air, and she needs oxygen. With a man, even though men like to solve things, and I know I’m being somewhat stereotypical, the masculine likes to, the man still wants to feel seen and valued, appreciated and respected. So you really listening to him and validating him and understanding him, and then noticing within the story the things he’s doing good and right and absolutely validating those. That’s going to make him feel back in his power again. That’s going to make him feel good about himself again. It’s going to make him feel good about his relationship, and then there might be an opening. You want to wait for the opening. You might say, Is there anything else I can do to help you? I’m here. I just want you to know that. You might get, Thanks, but I’m good. I got it. He might say, I don’t know. If you have any ideas, sure. Then you can share. Unless that opening comes, you don’t want to be advice giving and counseling and coaching your spouse. A word to the wise. I learned the hard way, because I did so much coaching it was just natural, and also being a man it’s natural for my masculinity to want to solve problems.

You can see how this same idea of bringing yourself or bringing a loved one or a client into a solution state of mind. If you’re a minister or whatever, a manager of a team, the same thing applies. You want to bring people back into a congruent receptive solution state of mind. That’s where the answers are. that’s where evolution happens. That’s where real healing and growth happens. That’s where we have the greatest most resourceful presence of being, and when you bring the attention back there, whatever is truly meant to unfold next now has an opening to do that.

(Bonus Episode) Time, Health, Wealth, Work, and Relationship Freedom: The Path of Liberation

Do you know that 99.99% of the world is run by the belief that if we could just change conditions, we could become safe, secure, significant and free?

It’s a 180 degrees opposite of what the great teachings taught. The fundamental teaching of Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, Lao Tzu, Quan Yin, Shankara were not about improving your human experience in order to be free. They were exactly the opposite.

As long as we’re trying to manipulate the world to be happy, safe or significant, we are slaves, prisoners, ruled over by an empire of human beliefs in lack, limitation, and separation.

Freedom won’t just come to you. It has to be earned by right of consciousness. Jesus taught, don’t try to save and improve your life. Let it go and seek a deeper connection. Buddha taught, do not engage in craving and aversion, which is basically the incessant need to try to get or get rid of it in order to be free or happy (in other words, manipulating appearances and conditions.) Buddha’s whole teaching was based on an idea of the whole false self, that all suffering is based on this part of us that is seeking to manipulate conditions in order to be free.

There’s no freedom in thinking you have to get something or get rid of something, change something in order to be free. That’s not freedom, that’s enslavement. Freedom is an inside job. When you can be in a place of peace, regardless of conditions, you’re really free.

When we drop down a little bit deeper into these life structures – time, health, wealth, work, relationships – you can begin to see how this applies in these areas of your life.

It’s important to understand that all human experience is a relative projection of our limited perception of infinite perfection. Time is a relative expression of eternity. It’s completely relative, bendable and flexible. That’s why if you’re with somebody you really love, an hour might feel like it went by in a minute. If you’re doing something you really hate, a minute feels like an hour. As Einstein described in his theory of relativity, time is relative. It’s just a construct. Eternity is what’s real.

So, if you’re trying to base what’s real and true on what’s in time and space, you’re already completely lost. You’re as far away from as if truth didn’t even exist because time and space are not real. There’s a bigger idea that is infinite and eternal. It’s trying to emerge as your life, as the world right now. That idea is what’s real, not all the relative expressions of it that are sometimes very chaotic, very disturbing and very challenging. None of that is truth or substance. None of that is governed or maintained by Divine life, law or power which means it has no power at all. The only thing governed and maintained by life, law or power is what is true, what is real, what is spiritual – which means it is eternal and unchanging.

You want to continuously seek a greater realization of the eternal unchanging truth of our being, or of any of these life structures -time, wealth, and health – to move into a greater state of well-being.

You can completely renew and restore each of these structures of your life forever, to the extent that you awake into this truth, because your body, wealth, work, health, and relationships are spiritual, infinite, immortal, eternal ideas and activities that never diminish, that never run out. The more free you get in this truth, you’ll be able to reveal an ever-increasing expansion and capacity in every area.

To support you in mastering this, listen to the in-depth podcast on the subject, where we break it down and put it into real-life practice TODAY. This will be a real game-changer.

To Your Emergence!

[The following is the full transcript of this episode of the Emergence, A Revolutionary Path for Radical Life Change, with Derek Rydall Podcast]

Greetings, my fellow Emergineers. Derek Rydall, here. It’s just so awesome to be with you again. It’s such an honor and a pleasure to have a chance to just dive in, to dive beneath the surface mind, all the surface tension of the world, all the stuff going on in the world that grabs our attention and tempts us to believe in lack, limitation, fear, and separation. Just take a pause, take a breath, and dive beneath all those appearances, all those beliefs, all the rhetoric, all the inner turmoil, the inner weather and storms, and touch ultimate reality a little bit. Just have a moment to deep dive beneath all the effects, all the old effects. When you look at your life, you’re not seeing the present, you’re seeing the past. You’re seeing what has already happened, what has already been accepted or believed in consciousness and is now projected onto the screen of your experience, like the wake of a boat. The wake of the boat isn’t driving the boat. It’s the energy in the boat presently, in the person steering it.

It’s so easy to be steered around by the wake of our life, to be driven by the wake of our life, which is called appearances and conditions – mental, emotional, physical appearances and conditions. All of that is the wake. It has no actual power or substance. It’s the wake. It’s the evidence in the trail we’ve left from previous thinking and actions. Yet we often have been almost completely hypnotized into looking at all of that and letting that determine where our boats are going to go, and it has no power. It has no real substance. It’s an effect. So, it’s just very important. That’s why we stop and we meditate and pray. We’re not praying to make something happen or to manipulate conditions. We’re not praying to move the wake around. We’re praying to touch reality, but not seek to get anything from it, to be influenced by it. We meditate to touch the reality of our being, to be receptive to this reality, to this unprecedented, unconditional life and substance that has never happened, that has nothing to do with conditions. The Divine, the spirit, God, by whatever name you call it, is not trying to change the world. It’s not trying to make the world better, not even trying to make your life better. It’s really important to hear this, because if God or spirit or Divine intelligence was trying to make your life better or the world better, it would know that there’s a problem. It would see lack. It would see limitation. It would see separation, and as thou see us, so thou be us.

Whatever is known in Divine consciousness is a permanent reality. That’s why it says in the Bible, God’s eyes are too pure to behold inequity, because whatever God knows, whatever Divine intelligence knows, that’s the way it is eternally. Do you understand? If God could know that two plus two might equal three, the whole principle of mathematics would fall apart. So, the Divine intelligence doesn’t know about your problems. It doesn’t know about the world’s problems. In Divine intelligence, there are no problems. There’s only perfect ideas, perfect patterns, a Divine perfect template of infinite, immortal, eternal wholeness, harmony, abundance, freedom and fulfillment. There are no issues, no problems, no separation, no limitation, no birth, no death, and no diminishment. There are no other beings or minds, or bodies to contend or conflict, or compete with. None of that exists in Divine intelligence. All of that exist in time. The time, space continuum is a canvas upon which we’re painting with our perceptions of reality. That’s it. There’s infinite perfection. There’s our relative perception of it and then there’s our human projection onto the canvas of time and space, and we call that human experience. We call that our life.

It’s just a projection of a relative of the infinite perfection. So, we have to take these moments to realize that this Divine intelligence of our being, its real focus and purpose is not to improve things. Its focus and purpose is just to reveal and emerge and express more of its infinite perfection. What that looks like is improvement. It looks like evolution and innovation and progress. There is none of those things and Divine intelligence. There’s only a perfect idea, like a movie already on the film reel. It unfolds to give the illusion of something happening and unfolding. It’s already done. It’s already in the can, as the saying goes. Likewise, as the Scripture says, I know the thoughts I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of good, not of evil, to give you an expected end. So, Divine intelligence already knows how it all works out, and we all win. In the end, we’re all victorious. In the end, we’re all fully awakened, fully alive, totally fulfilled, living and loving and shining to the max.

The Divine intelligence only knows that. It only knows that you’re already whole, that you’re already complete, that you’re already free, that you’re already a perfect idea and expression of itself. That’s all that it knows and sees when it sees you. So, when we pray and meditate and do all the work we’re doing, we’re ultimately not trying to manipulate anything, but to have an awareness of how God sees us, to have an awareness of how God sees the world. In other words, to have an awareness of how this Divine intelligence and reality of our being knows and sees and holds us. That’s why that prayer of awakening I say is, more than I want to fix, change, heal, control, manipulate anyone or anything, I want to wake up to the truth that makes me free. I want to see the way you see.

So, our prayer is never to set things right, which is manipulation, but to see things rightly, which is awakening, revelation, realization. So, I have no intention to talk about any of those, but it must have been a need to be said. It really isn’t the topic, although in a way, it really is, because the topic is all about freedom. It’s funny too, because I look at the topic and the title of this training, of this call, and I was like That’s big enough to drive a truck through. It’s so general. The title is literally Time, Health, Wealth, Work, and Relationship Freedom – The Path of Liberation. I look at them, and I’m like What in the world I’m planning on talking about, besides everything? I understand what I mean now, as I looked at it. I don’t plan these talks out. I let the title to drop in, and then on the day, I open up and maybe take a note or two and see what flows. I understand this. It took me a moment. I had to get back into the space where this arose from. It is very much in a way what I’ve just been talking about even, now that I think about it. So, see, Derek doesn’t always know what the heck he’s doing, but the Spirit always does. So, that’s why I try to do what Ralph Waldo Emerson said and remove my bloated sense of nothingness out of the way of the Divine circuits, because God knows what God had planned. God knows what God wants to talk about.

So, the key here is that– I got to laugh, because it’s just so funny how I did not have any idea why I was saying everything I’m saying, and then the first note I wrote on here was as long as we’re trying to manipulate the world to be happy, safe or significant, we are slaves, prisoners, ruled over by an empire of human beliefs in lack, limitation, and separation. So, I guess, the Spirit knew exactly what it was planning here. So, here’s the thing. There is no freedom in the world. There is no peace or safety in the world. No amount of human improvement will ever make you safe, secure, significant or free. Just let that sink in for a moment, and you may go, Oh, yeah, I know that, because you heard me say it or heard other people say it, but do you understand the implications of that? Do you know that 99.99% of the world is run by the belief that if we could just change conditions, we could become safe, secure, significant and free? Do you know that 99.999% of every legislation and country and product and industry is almost entirely built on and ran by the belief that if we could just make conditions better, we will eventually be safe, secure, significant and free?

So, what I’m suggesting is a thought as radical of an idea as you can possibly imagine. Maybe because you heard me say it before, maybe many times before, it doesn’t sound so radical, but I really want you to let it sink in, because most of what you’re doing in your life is based on a belief that if you could just change the conditions, you’ll be okay. That is fundamentally false. It’s a 180 degrees opposite of what the great teachings taught. The great religious teachings did not teach how to improve your humanhood. Certainly, there were some basic things to stabilize some of the human structures so that you would have time for the deeper contemplation. The fundamental teaching of Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, Lao Tzu, Quan Yin, Shankara – they were not about improving your human experience in order to be free. They were exactly the opposite. That’s why Jesus said, My kingdom is not of this world. That’s why he didn’t say, Here’s how you make your human life better. He said, If you try to save your life, you’ll lose it, but if you’re willing to lose your life for My sake, meaning the Christ or the highest idea of truth within you, then you’ll have life eternal. He said, Take no thought for your life, not the clothes you’re going to wear, the food you’re going to eat or whatever. Don’t worry about any of that stuff. That’s already taken care of. Don’t worry about tomorrow. Today’s problems are sufficient unto today. Tomorrow will take care of itself. Just don’t take anxious thought for anything in the world.

In other words, don’t be a problem solver. Seek first the kingdom of Heaven within you, and all of those things will be added onto you. It actually said, Seek first the kingdom of Heaven and its righteousnesswhich means the understanding of the principles, really understand how this thing called life works. Then, that understanding will breed right action and what the world calls improvement. He also said, You must know the truth and then the truth will make you free. It doesn’t just make you free. Freedom doesn’t just happen, it happens just – meaning it’s lawful and it’s orderly, and it’s based on principle. You have to know the truth, right? If you believe two plus two equals three, it’s not just going to eventually one day dawn on you, except by working through the problem of always lacking, always lacking, always getting short change, and eventually going what’s the truth here? What’s wrong here? What’s going on here? Having a realization that two plus two equals four. Now, you’ve got a knowing, and that knowing instantly changes your experience.

It won’t just happen to you. Freedom won’t just come to you. It has to be earned by right of consciousness. Jesus taught, don’t try to save and improve your life. Let it go and seek a deeper connection. Buddha taught, do not engage in craving and aversion, which is basically the incessant need to try to get or get rid of it in order to be free or happy; in other words, manipulating appearances and conditions. Buddha’s whole teaching was based in an idea of the whole false self, and all suffering is based on this part of us that is seeking to manipulate conditions in order to be free. He said, observe that until it dissolves and disintegrates; in other words, die daily, do not try to save your life, let it go, and then you will touch Nirvana or Heaven or ultimate reality, and you will find that place of equanimity where you are no longer moved or bothered by the world or appearances, and now you will begin to taste real freedom.

There’s no freedom in thinking you have to get something or get rid of something, change something in order to be free. That’s not freedom. That’s enslavement. Freedom is an inside job. When you realize your wholeness and your freedom and your abundance and your safety spiritually and can be in that place of peace, regardless of conditions, now you’re really free. You could be locked up in a prison cell, and you’re free, and you’re in joy, and you’re in peace. So, real freedom, real fulfillment, comes when we stop trying to merely change the world and the conditions. When we drop down a little bit deeper into these different areas, these life structures – time, health, wealth, work, relationships – it’s important that we don’t just take what I’m saying, and then kind of move on in a general sense, but we really look at these areas and think how does this apply in these areas. So, when we look at time, it’s important to understand that all human experience, as I said in the beginning, is a relative projection of our limited perception of infinite perfection. So, there’s perfection, there’s perception, there’s projection, and then there’s protection, which is where we wrap our ego around that experience, and we call it reality. We put a frame around it. We hang it on the gallery of our mind and say, that’s what’s true. That’s you. That’s me. That’s the world. It’s just a gallery of pictures that we put frames around.

So, everything is a relative expression of an infinite perfection. Time is a relative expression of eternity. Time is completely relative, completely bendable and flexible. That’s why if you’re with somebody you really, really love, an hour might feel like it went by in a minute. If you’re doing something you really, really hate, a minute feels like an hour, as Einstein described in his theory of relativity. Time is relative. Time is just a construct. Eternity is what’s real, and eternity isn’t a long time. See, that’s what we do. We think eternity is a long time, because what we’ve been conditioned to do is project our mortal material concept. We think life is material and life is temporal and life is mortal, we project it onto all the spiritual teachings, and that’s why we end up with fundamentalist religions where we think Heaven is a literal place above the clouds, and God is a man with a beard on a throne, and Jesus is literally sitting next to Him, I don’t know what, fanning him, bringing him wine. I’m not sure what people think he’s doing, but this is a material perception of spiritual reality. Spiritual reality has nothing to do with material reality. Material reality is a relative expression of spiritual reality so you can begin to see heavy peeking out and the symbols of what’s true, but you got to be willing to not interpret it materially. You have to interpret it spiritually. Seek first the kingdom of Heaven and its righteousness.

So, time is a relative expression of eternity, which is a state of being now. It’s not a long time. It’s a now-ness that is forever. Even saying forever, we think a long time, but it’s not. It’s when you step out of time, what is left is eternity. It has no beginning. It has no end. You can get a little bit of a sense of it when you think of space and vast space where there’s no planet or stars or anything. The same thing with space. Let’s look at space. Space is a relative expression of infinity. Infinity isn’t a lot of space or a lot of stuff, infinity is like when you think about two plus two equals four…oryou think about the number four. There are literally infinite ways to express four. There’s no end to it. Two plus two, two times two, five minus one, a billion minus 999,999,996. Four is infinite. So, it doesn’t mean it’s a lot. It means there’s no end to its expression. This is true of everything. Behind everything, there is an infinite idea, an infinite pattern, and there’s no end to it. You can imagine numbers ever running out. There’s no end to it. There’s no beginning either. So, infinity is reality. Eternity is reality. Time and space is a relative construct, a canvas. It’s not real. It’s not truth.

So, if you’re trying to base what’s real and true on what’s in time and space, you’re already completely lost. You’re as far away from as if truth didn’t even exist because time and space are not real, but you can start there as a bread crumb and ask these kind of questions, begin to appear and see what’s really here, what’s really trying to emerge. There’s a bigger idea that is infinite and eternal. It’s trying to emerge as my life, as the world right now. That idea is what’s real, not all the relative expressions of it that are sometimes very chaotic and very disturbing and very challenging. None of that is truth. None of that is substance. None of that is power and none of that is real. None of that is governed or maintained by Divine life or law or power which means it has no power at all. The only thing governed and maintained by life, law or power is what is true, what is real, what is spiritual which means it is eternal and unchanging.

So, we want to continuously seek a greater realization of the eternal unchanging truth of our being, or of any of these life structures so we move into health. What we call health is basically the proper workings of the organs and functions of the body, but that’s not health. I want you to really hear that. That might be the evidence of the consciousness of health, but it’s not health. The body, the organs and functions are not the source of health. Health as a spiritual, eternal quality of being which is wholeness, which is the eternal, indestructible, incorruptible life of God, which is the body of God, the temple of the universe, that’s the real body. It’s spiritual. It has no size. It has no structure. It’s a spiritual idea and activity. The more that’s realized in consciousness, this consciousness of wholeness and oneness, and the activity and the energy of spirit, then that is interpreted as organs, functions, bone, ligaments, tendon, and tissues in a healthy way. In fact, every organ, every action of the body is actually an infinite, immortal, eternal, spiritual idea and activity that has no beginning and no ending, that does not age, that does not diminish, that can never be sick, but because we have a mortal, material time-space bound concept of body, that’s what we experience. We’re not experiencing the body directly. We’re experiencing our mortal, personal, temporal perception of body. When you look down at this physical thing, that’s not your body, that’s your mortal material perception of the body which is actually the body of God which is actually infinite, immortal, eternal, indestructible, incorruptible, it was never born, it will never die, and it can never age. Age is a function of the belief in time. The more you’re out of time, the less you’ll age.

We get down to money or wealth, so we talk about time, health and wealth, wealth freedom. There is no freedom in having a lot of money. That’s not wealth freedom, because you can lose it. The economy can go south. The dollar can collapse. You can have a billion dollars and the value of dollar could go into the tank, and now, what do you have? Your job could go away. You could get fired. You could have a lot of money but then get sued and lost most or all of it. I mean there’s no safety or freedom in physical material wealth. It’s just a fruit of a consciousness of wealth. If you have that consciousness of wealth, which is spiritual and internal, and it’s not based on dollars and fruits and all that, now you’re free. When Jesus said, If you tear down this temple, I will rebuild it in three days, he was talking about the body temple, because he knew that the body was spiritual, not material.

He knew you could never kill the body, but the same thing is true for all of these temples of our life, the temple of wealth, the temple of health, the temple of relationship, the temple of time, the temple of work, or purpose. All of these are spiritual, and the world can tear down the material concept. Time and space can seem to erode and wear down material concepts, but when you’re living in the spiritual temple, in the spiritual reality of your being, you will continuously rebuild it because you’re living in what’s real and the substance of experience will continue to clothe itself based on what you’re knowing and holding in consciousness. So, you’ll never again fear what the world can do to you. You’ll never again fear what time and space and experience can do because you’ll know that that’s not your source and that has no power, that in three days which is a metaphor for a cycle, you will rebuild. Pull all the fruit off a tree and in three days, otherwise, known as the new season, you will have a whole new harvest of fruit.

You can completely renew and restore every temple of your life, every structure of your life forever when you awake into this truth and to the extent that you awake into this truth, because your body, your wealth, your work, your health, and your relationships are spiritual, infinite, immortal, eternal ideas and activities that never diminish, that never run out and in fact, not only can you completely rebuild and restore anything, that’s why it says, I shall restore the years the locust have eaten. You will not just restore every temple, every area of your life. The more free you get in this truth, you’ll be able to reveal an ever-increasing expansion and capacity in every area so that with every passing year, you not only restore your body but you have more strength, more health, more power, more stamina, more athleticism, more flexibility and agility. You don’t only restore your mind but you have more genius, more brilliance, more intelligence, more inspiration, more productivity and creativity. You not only restore all the relationships but you have more love, more compassion, patience, understanding, more of depth of intimacy and connection, play and joy, adventure and aliveness in every area from glory to greater glory world without end. This is the description of reality, of spiritual reality.

Freedom can only be had to the extent that you’re living in that reality, to the extent that you’re seeking your freedom in the world through manipulating time trying to manipulate and manage your physical body, trying to manipulate and achieve money and wealth, trying to hold on to or manipulate or achieve the right work or the right relationships. You will never ever have freedom. As the relationship saying goes, when it comes to relationships, Two halves do not make a whole; only two haves make wholeness. In other words, when you come into relationship not to get anything by coming in from wholeness and knowing you’re just there to give and to share to commune, to be in love, not to get love. Then, now, you begin the journey of real freedom in relationship and the real possibility of relationship. As long as you’re trying to get anything, you can never be free because you believe they are the source of whatever you’re trying to get. As long as you’re trying to get anything at work, you’re not going to be free. As long as you’re trying to get anything from anyone or anything in the world, orwaiting for something, or believing you can’t be and do until something changes, all those are signs that you become imprisoned in time and space.

Freedom means letting go of everyone and everything as a source and anchoring yourself in the source, no longer leaning on resource but leaning on the source within you. That is the only place you’ll ever find freedom, safety, security, significance or fulfillment. There is none in this world, but that’s not bad news. It might sound bad at first, but that is what the great masters taught. They didn’t teach how to attract. They didn’t teach how to achieve. They taught that the work is already been done. In the beginning was God and was the Word, and the Word was with God, and all that was made was made out of the Word and God saw it and named it all good. In other words, it’s good. It’s done and nothing was made without the Word. So, only God, only this Divine intelligence made everything. It’s done. It’s done. This Divine intelligence isn’t going to do anything more. It’s not a project in process. It’s done. Life is done. Two plus two exists. It was never created, and it can never be destroyed. Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do – the musical scale exists, and, by the way, it’s infinitely more than those notes, as is our ideas of Math. The true depth and potential of Math and Music, it’s so multidimensional and multifaceted, our human mind could never grasp within its completeness. This is true about everything and everyone, but it’s done.

All real growth and evolution is never ever about adding anything or achieving or attracting or improving anything. It’s always about a greater realization of what already Is, what’s already here – the laws of aerodynamics, the laws of electro conductivity, the laws of buoyancy, the laws of everything that is created everything in our life – already exists and already existed. At the time of Buddha, you could have had flying planes and computers if you had only realized those principles. It’s already done. Your life is done. Your destiny is fulfilled. You’re already whole, complete, perfect, free, fulfilled, living and moving, and having your being in heaven, in harmony, in pure good, perfect love, perfect piece, total bliss and ecstasy and paradise on every level in every way, already here and now and forever. You can never leave it, you can never lose it, you can never earn it or achieve it. You’re it. Tag you’re it.

Now, the work is to have an ever greater realization of what I just expressed. So, it’s not just word. It’s not just theories and thoughts and beliefs, but it’s an absolute undeniable knowingness to the extent that you know what I just said, to that extent where you will be free and to that extent where your life show forth the health, the wealth, the wisdom, the fulfillment, the love, that your human mind has been seeking. So, this is the path of real liberation. This is the path of real Emergence. This is really what Emergence is teaching. It appears on the surface. I draw you in by talking about in some ways making your mind think that Emergence is about making your life better and improving and achieving and all that good stuff, and then once you’re in, and it’s too late, now, I let you see what it’s really about or you begin to discover that yourself. Now, to be clear, it does ultimately lead to improvement and to better life but it leads to in a way that perhaps we have not been conditioned. The other thing is in all of this, I’m not saying you don’t need to and shouldn’t be doing things in the world.

The fact that it’s already done and the fact that you’re already it, it doesn’t mean that you’ll just sit around and wait. Remember. It doesn’t mean you don’t get in the game and play. It doesn’t mean you don’t still work with your thoughts, your feelings, your conversations, your actions, but now, you’re not doing all of that to make it happen. You’re doing all of that to create the conditions that make what is already happening welcomed, okay? So, just because the music is already broadcasting, it doesn’t mean it’s just going to play over your radio. No. You have to do the work of tuning that dial into the station. Just because it’s already here, it doesn’t mean it’s going to just broadcast. I mean it’s already broadcasting, it doesn’t mean it’s going to become manifest. So, you still have to work with all the structures and you definitely want to be a good steward of everything you have, your body, your mind, your business, your relationships, but fundamentally, you’re doing it to create ever greater congruence and integrity, to speak and think and walk and talk and show up ever increasingly as if it’s already done, it’s already happening, I’ve already got it all, I’m whole, I’m complete, I’m free, and I’m fulfilled.

So, this is your charge. This is your opportunity. I invite you on this path of true liberation. I hope this has served you and supported you and inspired you. It may be even stretch you a little bit. Just take a moment and just drop down into this field of grace as we throw ourselves wide open to the power and the presence and the love of God – this Divine intelligence that governs everything and created everything out of itself and this presence that is not only in everything but everything is in it, meaning that everything’s true nature is Divine, whole, complete, and perfect. There is nothing outside of our other than the Divine. Being infinite, you can’t have an infinity plus. Being omnipresent, you can’t have something that’s everywhere in its fullness and have something somewhere else. Being omnipotent, all powerful, you can’t have another power outside of omnipotence. Being omniscient, all science, all knowing, all truth, you can’t have another truth, or another mind or another intelligence. There’s only one.

There’s only one. Its nature is pure love, goodness and perfection, wholeness and completeness. It is the only thing going on. It’s going on here and now, but we must know it consciously and that’s what we’re doing right now. We are knowing the truth, that the truth will make us free. We’re developing a consciousness of truth, instead of a consciousness of the relative perceptions. We’re knowing that right where each and every individual here is is all of the power and the presence and the love of God, all of the infinite God head, all of the infinity of the universe rushing and pouring and expressing each unique perfection as each individual here and as every one that this community is connected to. All that is going on is a never-ending unfoldment of Divine perfection, abundance, wholeness, completeness, freedom and fulfillment.

This word that I’m speaking is the vibration is the wholeness and freedom and it dissolves and disintegrates all frequencies, beliefs, concepts, identities that are not true, that are not congruent. It activates the realization in everyone here of who they really are and why they’re alive. It activates the power and the potential and the wisdom and the guidance and the direction and the compelling right action. It activates the momentum, the energy, the strength, and the courage in everything that is needed to make them a congruent place where the fullness of life can now put itself on display and prove that all that there is is God, all that there is is love, all that there is is oneness. Prove it, and prove that all error, all fear, all lack has no power over us whatsoever. We are now ever greater instrument to prove this in our individual and collective lives, to demonstrate a destiny of greatness. It’s unfolding now. As whatever needs to be spoken or heard, taught or done, everything is working together for our good. All is well, and so it is, now and forever. Amen. Just take a moment and feel that activation.

(Bonus Episode) What You Really Came Here For (And What You Didn’t)

(Bonus Episode) What You Really Came Here For (And What You Didn’t)

You came to this planet to use this dimension of duality and contrast to awaken more fully to who and what you are.

You’re here to paint your unique masterpiece of love, life, and light onto the canvas of time and space so that others can see it and be liberated and awakened to their own greatness, joy, and genius.

Whether you call it painting on the canvas of life or performing your Divine drama on the stage of life, you came here because you have gifts to bring, and you have something to learn.

That’s where the very definition of human comes from, a Sanskrit term that means the dispenser of Divine gifts. As we talk about in the Emergence work, and really what all the great masters taught, everything is already within you – all the power, presence, life, and love of God, all that you could ever want. You’re not really even in the world, the world is in you. You have everything, and so this world can’t give you anything, except for a reflection of where you’re living in consciousness and a place or an opportunity to grow and to give.

There’s a unique way that shows up for you. It might uniquely show up as a writer, teacher, dancer, singer, author, healer, doctor, plumber, parent, architect, politician, lawyer. Yes, even a politician and lawyer! Although not everybody is living the Divine purpose within their profession, we all came here in a very unique and creative way to realize the life and the light of our true being and to shine it in a unique, gifted way that helps others to awaken and to do the same.

What didn’t you come here for? You didn’t come here to shop, to win an argument, to prove anything to anybody else, to win anything, to get a job even. You didn’t come here to get anything, to get a bunch of money, or real estate, to defeat the enemy, to get approval, validation or love from anybody.

That doesn’t mean that you don’t get a job, get into a relationship, don’t get a new car, or you don’t get some clothes. That’s all beautiful and wonderful, but you’re not here to get those things.

You get into the relationship so that you can have an opportunity to awaken to who you really are and give more of the love within you.

You get that job so that you have an opportunity to awaken to who you really are through the challenges and things, and to give of your giftedness.

You get a new car so that you have the transportation in this dimension to travel to the places you need to give of your love and give of your gifts.

You get a new home so that you can create a sanctuary and an environment where you can love each other and create, meditate, grow, play, sing, love and release more of your imprisoned splendor.

You go into the lands of the world so you can cultivate, nourish and honor them.  To create works of art and structures that support the awakening, loving , playing, sharing and the healing of our soul.

No matter what it is, whether its relationship, health, wealth, work, or personal development, we’ve been conditioned to believe that all of these things we need to get is the end game. The end game is to get and acquire the perfect home and the perfect job and the amount of money you want, the right relationship, and the piece of land. That if you get all that you’ve won the game. No.

You’ve only just begun it. That’s not the end result – that’s the preparation. Each one of those is like a plank in the platform from which now you can launch off from and give of your true life, your true gifts and your true purpose.

There’s some simple ways to test this: Can you take any of that stuff with you when you leave this planet? If you can’t take any of it with you, does that make any sense that you would have come here to get it? Think about that. If you can’t take the money, the houses, the cars, that person, then what can you take?

You can take the love that you activate. You can take the joy and the bliss that you active from giving of your heart and your gifts, being of service. You can take the wisdom you’ve discovered and developed and activated. Not necessarily the human knowledge, all that you learned about how to sell and make great business deals that will have no real value in the next dimension, but what you learned in terms of integrity, loyalty, service, love and honor, that translates into any dimension.

I invite you to contemplate this: once you leave this earthly place, will what you’ve done in this moment, what you’re striving for or arguing for, will it matter to the people you leave behind, to the world you leave behind?

As you begin to discover your ultimate purpose, some of the things you thought mattered, will fall away.

Your values will begin to shift, and it won’t be as important to do certain things. It won’t be as important to acquire stuff you don’t really need that aren’t truly opening your heart and mind and allowing you to give your gifts. It doesn’t mean you can’t have a big screen TV. You can have a home theater, but you’ll have a vision way bigger than that, and the vision will have something to do with truly awakening your heart, your mind, your soul, your creative genius, your loving, and helping others to do the same.

To support you in mastering this, listen to the in-depth podcast on the subject, where we break it down and put it into real-life practice TODAY. This will be a real game-changer.

So what you really came here for, and what you didnt. Let me just start right out of the gate by telling you absolutely what you didnt come here for. What I mean by here I dont mean to this podcast; I mean to this planet. You did not come here to get a sale at Macys or Walmart. You did not come here for that Fire sale. You did not come here for Black Friday. No matter how much you like to shop till you drop, you did not drop into this dimension to shop. Thats the first thing I want you to know you didnt come here for. Im going to talk mostly about what you didnt come here for.

What you came here for, what we call came here for, is to use this dimension of duality and contrast to awaken more fully to who and what we are, and to paint our unique masterpiece of love and life and light onto the canvas of time and space so that others could see it and be liberated and awakened to their own greatness and their own joy and their own genius. Whether you call it painting on the canvas of life or performing your Divine drama on the stage of life, you came here because you have gifts to bring, and you have something to learn. Thats where the very definition of human comes from, a Sanskrit term that means the dispenser of Divine gifts. As we talk about in the Emergence work, and really what all the great masters taught, everything is already within you, all the power, presence, life, and love of God, all that you could ever want. Youre not really even in the world, the world is in you. You have everything, and so this world cant give you anything, except for a reflection of where youre living in consciousness and a place or an opportunity to grow and to give. Thats it. Thats what you came here for.

Now, theres a unique way that shows up. It might uniquely show up as a writer, teacher, dancer, singer, author, healer, doctor, plumber, parent, architect, politician, lawyer. Yes, even a politician and lawyer. Im sorry to tell you, thats also a Divine purpose. I dont know how many are actually living the Divine purpose within their profession, but you came here in a very unique and creative way to realize the life and the light of your true being and to shine it in a unique, gifted way that helps others to awaken and to do the same, and to have fun. Its a fun, dynamic, dramatic dimension of contrast and light, but thats what you came here for.

What didnt you come here for? Again, you didnt come here to shop. Nothing wrong with shopping, but weve kind of turned shopping into entertainment. You to the airport now, and a lot of airports are really just shopping malls surrounded by planes. As one of my mentors, Michael Beckwith, says, People are walking around looking for something to buy. Here what I said. Theyre not walking around to find the thing they really need. That creative impulse to give and share the gift of their life has been aberrated and corrupted into an energy of trying to get and acquire for the sake of acquiring. How many people have things in their closet with the tags still on them? Boxes in their garage that have never been opened from Amazon or the Home Shopping Club or whatever? The trash heaps of our country and the world are filled with this stuff. You didnt come here to shop.

You didnt come here, also, to win an argument, except the argument within yourself. Whenever youre in an argument, when youre in a situation, and youre so committed, like life or death, to prove youre right and that theyre wrong, to somehow exact revenge, you didnt come here for that. You didnt come here to prove anything to anybody else, except to prove the principle of truth, to prove that God is all there is, or love is all there is, or love will win the day, but not to prove that youre better than them or theyre less than you, or even to prove theyre better than you, which sometimes we unconsciously do. You didnt come here to prove any of that. You didnt come here to win anything, except the argument within your own heart, which is to convince yourself that you are one with the One of all life, the Source of all creation, that you are whole, complete, and beautiful and abundant and worthy and necessary. You came here to convince yourself of that and to prove that, and then to help prove it for everyone.

You didnt come here to prove that youre better than anyone. You didnt come here to prove someone else is wrong. You didnt come here to win a court case. You didnt come here to get a job even. You didnt come here to get a bunch of money. You didnt come here to get a bunch of real estate. You didnt come here to defeat the enemies, except the enemy within your own household, which is the only place it exists, within your consciousness. You didnt come here to get anything. You didnt come here to get approval or validation or love from anybody. No. You didnt come here even to get love. You came here to give it, because infinite love is within you.

That doesnt mean that we dont get a job, we dont get in a relationship, we dont get a new car, we dont get some clothes. Thats all beautiful and wonderful, but were not here to get those things. We get into the relationship so that we can have an opportunity to awaken to who we really are and give more of the love within us. We get that job so that we have an opportunity to awaken to who we really are through the challenges and things, and to give of our giftedness. We get a new car so that we have the transportation in this dimension to travel to the places we need to give of our love and give of our gifts. We get a new home so that we can create a sanctuary and an environment where we can love each other and create our things and meditate and grow and play and sing and love and release more of our imprisoned splendor. We go into the lands of the world so we can cultivate them and nourish them and honor them and create works of art and structures that support the awakening and the loving and the playing and the sharing and the healing of our soul.

No matter what it is, whether its relationship, health, wealth, work, personal development, all of these things that we have been conditioned to believe we need to get, that thats the end game. The end game is to get and acquire the perfect home and the perfect job and the amount of money we want, and the right relationship, and the piece of land. That if we get all that weve won the game. No. No. TranscriptionYouve only just begun it. Thats not the end result. Thats the preparation. Thats the beginning. Each one of those is like a plank in the platform from which now you can launch off from and give of your true life and your true gifts and your true purpose.

Theres some simple ways to test this. Can you take any of that stuff with you? If you cant take any of it with you, does that make any sense that you would have come here to get it? Think about that. If you cant take any of it with you, and you cant. You cant take the money. You cant take the houses and the cars. You cant even take that person. What can you take with you? You can take the love that you activate. You can take the joy and the bliss that you active from giving of your heart and your gifts, being of service. You can take the wisdom youve discovered and developed and activated. Not necessarily the human knowledge, all that you learned about how to sell and make great business deals. That will have no real value in the next dimension, but what you learned in terms of integrity and loyalty and service and love and honor, that translates into any dimension.

Did you really come here to learn how to build rocket ships or do brain surgery or make great deals or master mathematics, or even become a great singer or songwriter? No. Not really. You came here, and as part of your unique journey you master a craft or domain specific knowledge, so that in that area you can shine your light and life and give your gifts, but the gift youre giving isnt just the work of art or that beautiful structure you built, or that computer you designed. No. The gift is what quality of the spirit that particular thing allows to be activated in you and in others. How it supports others in giving their true soul gifts and awakening to their true self. So that work of art is not just a work of art. If youve done it from that deeper place it liberates peoples hearts and minds and spirits, whether its through emotional catharsis or spiritual awareness, and that computer gives them the tools they need to do their work and give of their gifts in the world. You see? When you really start to boil it down, the only thing that really matters, the only thing, is the activation and the discovery of who and what you really are, and the true qualities of your soul, and the full activation of those qualities, the love, the peace, the joy, the inner connection. Thats all that really matters.

Another test you can do is when youre in the midst of an argument or a struggle to achieve or attract or strategies and tactics to win and succeed, you can stop and ask yourself, especially if you feel constricted, contracted, pushy, afraid, angry, you can ask, Will this matter in 20 years? Start there. Will this matter in 20 years? Youre in the middle of a fight. Youre arguing with your wife about the fact that she charged too much on the credit card, or youre arguing with your husband the fact that he stayed out too late drinking with the buddies. Dont get me wrong. Im not saying you dont deal with the mundane things, but when you make it an issue, you make it an argument, you make it a fight, you make it a thing, you got to ask yourself, Will this matter in 20 years? In 20 years will I really care that my wife bought that dress without asking me? Will I really care that my husband stayed out late with the boys drinking? Whatever the case. Maybe thats kind of cliché examples. Do it the other way around. The husband bought that golf clubs that we couldnt afford, and the wife stayed out with her friends really late and didnt call, whatever. Will it really matter 20 years from now?

Again, Im not saying you dont deal with the real issues of the heart. If you have commitments and agreements, and they get breached, and youre afraid, absolutely, but thats this inner work, but its because you want to perfect your loving. Its because you want to have a deeper sense of peace. You want to feel more empowered. Thats what really matters, not the credit card bill or the extra golf clubs, or the fact that he leaves the toilet seat up all the time, or whatever. You want to ask yourself, Will this matter in 20 years? Then you ask yourself, after that, because maybe youll still convince yourself it does, Will this thing right here that Im fighting for or that Im struggling to attain, will it matter on my deathbed? If you really ask with sincerity, you might hear an answer like, Itll really matter, but not for the reason I thought. If I make this about me being right and them being wrong, and I fight, I might do damage to this relationship. I might not have it in 20 years. I might be alone on my deathbed. It matters for that reason. Youll most likely get, No. I mean, think about it. You want to also test this? Think about 20 years ago. Think about some of the things you thought meant everything. Its like life or death that you got that new shiny Mustang when you were a teenager, or the whole world was collapsing around you because she broke up with you, or your parent not letting you go out to that concert, and you hated them and wished they would die. Now you think about it 20 years later, 30 years, 40 years, and you laugh about it, or maybe you kind of feel ashamed about it. Youre like, how could I have thought that mattered so much?

Again, I have to qualify, because theres levels. Its not that theres not value and meaning in all of our challenges. When the young teenagers heart is broken, that does matter. Theres value in the work that that produces, but when we are fighting for our life and fighting and making something life and death and putting all of our energy into acquiring and achieving it or proving it, if we ask these questions we start to loosen our grip, and we start to ask, What does matter in this moment? Its not that Im right or wrong. Its not that I get or dont get. So what does matter? There is something that matters when that teenagers heart gets broken, when mom and dad wont let you go out, or when the person breaks your trust. There is something that matters, a matter of the heart and the soul. Theres something in that for the evolution and growth of your spirit, and ultimately a greater realization of your true purpose and a greater capacity to give of your gifts. There is something that matters as it pertains to that.

So when you ask these questions you can ask, In this moment, did I come to planet Earth in this moment to prove them wrong and prove me right? In this moment, this conflict, this struggling or striving, did I come to Earth for this thing? What did I really come to Earth for in this moment? If this was the only moment I had, I came to Earth just for this moment, because in a very real way thats true of every moment, Then what did I come here for right now. In this argument with my wife, what is the reason I came to Earth as it pertains to this argument? It sure isnt to prove myself right. What good is that going to do me? That would be a silly reason to travel through Universes and galaxies and cross the barrier of time and space, to make her wrong for buying a dress or make him wrong for buying those golf clubs. That would be pretty silly. You start to tap into the real reason you came here, the real reason for each moment, the real goal in each moment, the soul goal, and you start to realize what you didnt come here for.

Now, you can expand this question even further. We said 20 years, the end of your life, on your deathbed, will this matter, the thing youre fighting for or striving for? The next question you ask is, What about when I leave this dimension, and Im in some other dimension? Will this matter? Will these golf clubs really matter? Will this credit card bill really matter? Will any of my debt really matter? Will the fact that I might get a million dollars or $100,000 or $1,000, will that matter when Im flying around in some other dimension? No. Then that must not be the real reason you came for, you came to this moment for. That must not be really what youre here in this moment for. You could be making a deal, but the real reason youre making that deal must not be about the money youre going to get. There must be a deeper truer, purer reason. The more you can be tapped into that and coming from that while you make the deal, now you are in league and in alignment with your souls goal, your souls purpose. You understand what Im saying?

Then you can expand it even further and say, Once you leave this earthly place, will what youve done in this moment, what youre striving for or arguing for, will it matter to the people you leave behind, to the world you leave behind? In other words, if you fight and prove youre right and theyre wrong, once you leave will that have been of value to them? Once you leave, the fact that you managed to make millions of dollars, is that going to necessarily make a difference for the world? It might. If youre earning the money to grow a non-profit organization thats going to then use that money to feed people and help people and educate people so they can live their lives and give their gifts, then if thats in your motivation for attracting or achieving or attaining that, you are more aligned with your true purpose. Do you see what I mean?

Again, Im not saying that any surface activity is, in and of itself, wrong. A fight isnt wrong. A conflict isnt wrong. Acquiring things isnt wrong, but its deep down is the actual acquisition the thing? Is the money the thing? Is the proving yourself right or them wrong the thing? Is there something deeper? The more you can be anchored to that real thing you came here for, which has something to do with awakening to your true potential, your true selfhood, and giving of your true gifts to the world so that others can awaken to their self and give their gifts, thats the ultimate purpose of everybody. Thats really why we all came here, in our own unique ways. One might do it as a banker. One might do it as a plumber. One might do it as a healer. One might do it as an artist, but its not the plumbing and the healing and the banking that we came here for. Its not to get something in that relationship and puff up our ego and make us feel better than or less than. Its this deeper purpose to awaken to our true self, to perfect our loving, our giving, and to give forth of those qualities in a way that helps others wake up and give of their own.

As you expand this you begin to discover, and as you really do that you start to feel yourself losing your grip around this situation. It doesnt mean you wont still have some fear, some anger, some sadness, but at least now youre going to know, what am I meant to do with this fear, anger and sadness based on this new context of what Im really here for? If Im really here to wake up to my true self, which is a unique expression of life and love and God, now how do I work with the sadness, the anger? Do I try to make them wrong? Thats not going to help me realize my oneness with God or perfect my loving, but there is something in here that will. You keep working until you find what that is. Thats going to change the context of that argument. Its going to change the paradigm or the context of that conflict. Its going to change the context of that ambition, until more and more youre rooted in the real reason you came here for.

Some of the things you thought mattered will fall away. Your values will shift, and it wont be as important to do certain things. It wont be as important to acquire stuff you dont really need and thats not really opening your heart and mind and allowing you to give of your gifts. Youll have a bigger vision than your flat screen TV. Youll see that reverse. Most people, unfortunately, have bigger TV screens than the vision for their life. That will begin to reverse. It doesnt mean you cant have a big screen. You can have a home theater, but youll a vision way bigger than that, and the vision will have something to do with truly awakening your heart, your mind, your soul, your creative genius, your loving, and helping others to do the same. Are you getting this?

What did you really come here for? What didnt you come here for? You didnt come here to prove youre right and someone else is wrong. You didnt come to hurt someone, get revenge, acquire a bunch of stuff, a bunch of money, a bunch of titles behind your name. You didnt even come here to get your body in the greatest shape ever. Its okay to do that, but if youre compulsively into I got to lose this weight or gain these muscles or look better, all that vanity, what good is that going to be on your deathbed? What good is that going to be when youre flying around in another dimension with a different body? What good is that going to leave behind for the loved ones in the world that youve left? Nothing.

Again, to put it in context, maybe you did come here to help really learn how to honor yourself through the body and model what good health looks like so that that particular structure is strong and doesnt become a liability. So you have the energy and strength to keep growing and awakening and giving your gifts and teaching others and modeling for others to do the same. Now in that context, the energy you put towards looking and feeling great has real merit. Its in integrity with your emerging soul. So what did you really come here for? When youre in the midst of a conflict, of something youre striving to achieve or attain, ask that question.

Then expand it. Will this matter in 20 years, what I think Im here for in this moment? Will it matter in 20 years? Will it matter on my deathbed? What will I think about it when Im out of this dimension in a completely different one? Will it matter to the people in the world Ive left behind? You want to keep asking and adjusting until your answer is yes. This will matter 20 years from now. This will matter on my deathbed. This will matter when I leave this place, and this will matter for those I leave behind. In some way it will help for the greater expression of my heart and soul and love, and it will help others for their greater expression of that too. So that were creating a world that works for the highest good of all, that reflects more and more the ultimate nature of reality, of love, of wholeness, and when thats the answer you consistently can give, you know youre on track, youre on purpose, and youre living your purpose.

(Bonus Episode) What Should I Do?

(Bonus Episode) What Should I Do?

What Should I Do?

This is such an important topic because this question is so often asked.

Sometimes the question is being asked unconsciously – you are doing so much, and feeling burnt out, overwhelmed, drained, or lacking inspiration and passion, and the unconscious questions trying to be asked is, “What should I do… What should I be focused on… What really matters?

The reason so many people can relate to this is because we get so used to being busy that we don’t take care of the real business in our lives and don’t create real productivity. We are so used to reacting, putting out fires and meeting everybody else’s needs and agendas, instead of getting really clear about what our own agenda is.  You hear people constantly ask, “How’s it going?” And your reply is “I’m so busy.”

There is something you are designed to be, to do, to create, to contribute. There’s a way you’re designed to show up in the world that is uniquely your design, and it comes with unique goals, projects, relationships, tasks, ways to show up, ways to serve, etc. It’s all part of the design package. Just like nature, the apple tree is designed to produce the fruit of apples, not to be a pine tree, an oak tree and a rose bush.  If the ecosystem started to act like that, the entire ecosystem would collapse.

We have to start unraveling what our own vision and mission is – get back to our core, back to our real yes, back to what we really want to do, and even look at the things that other family, friends, and co-workers are excited about, but may not be the thing for us.

Sometimes there’s things that appear to be working in our lives, things that seem to be kind of going good. You’ve heard the saying, you got a good thing going here, kid; don’t mess with it. Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke. Well, that’s not entirely accurate. I put it another way, what’s working that’s in the way?

Just because something isn’t broken doesn’t mean that it’s not meant to evolve. I use the example often of the Rubik’s cube, that little square puzzle, and it’s all messed up, all different colors on each side, and the point of the puzzle is you have to keep turning and twisting until you get every side a solid color. You start to do it, and at some point you get one of the sides solid. You get a solid white, and that’s a success. It’s working. However, what do you have to do to get the next side working? You have to mess up what you just got working. You could say, it’s not broken; it’s working. Why would I want to mess that side up? You have to mess it up, if you’re going to get the next side working. Then you get two sides working. Victory! But now what do you have to do to keep getting the next side, the next side? You’ve got to keep messing up what’s working. You have to keep messing up the level of success you’ve just achieved. You have to be more focused on the grander vision than on necessarily short term payoffs.

It doesn’t mean you don’t appreciate them and celebrate them. “I got another side!” You’ve got to keep letting it go and moving and evolving. A lot of times in our life there are certain things that are working at a certain level. Maybe your marriage is not broken, but is it really thriving? Maybe you’ve got to kind of break things, or at least shake things up. As I like to say, sometimes my work is not just to comfort the afflicted, but to afflict the comfortable.

Maybe you’ve got a job that’s not broken, it’s kind of working. It’s paying the bills. They’re not necessarily mistreating you, maybe they even appreciate you. You’ve got a good thing going, but you’re not truly on fire. You’re not fully alive and passionate, and there’s something more that’s trying to emerge. You might have to mess it up a little bit at first in order to say yes to your bigger yes.

This is challenging, because we’re always seeking another level of status quo, equilibrium, balance, and once we find that balance we don’t want to lose it. How do you walk? If you never ever wanted to lose your balance, you couldn’t walk, because every time you walk what you’re really doing is falling forward. You’re going off balance, catching yourself. Off balance, catching yourself. Off balance, catching yourself, but at a new level each time, in a new space, a more progressive space. So you’re off balance, catch yourself, rebalance. Off balance, catch yourself, rebalance… Before you learn to do that, you fell. As a child you got up, you fell, you got up, you fell. You just kept falling forward, and eventually you were walking. Because of this mechanism that’s always trying to bring us to a state of equilibrium and balance, we are more inclined or have more commitment to staying the same, rather than changing and continuing to grow. So that’s one of the big things we have to begin to move out of.

One way to begin to do this process of determining what’s important to you now is to make a list of everything you do and everything on your list that you think you have to do. Perhaps it’s the next months’ worth of things, and some of them are things you do all the time, and some of them are things you’re adding to your list over the next month. Look at that list, and start to identify, “If I was guaranteed success, what are the few things that would be a hell yes?”

You can also break the list down into structures, which might be a little easier. You have several life structures: health, wealth, work, relationships, spiritual growth, personal development, and service. You can break down all the tasks into these categories. What are all the things you’re doing in the category of health? What are all the things you’re doing in the category of wealth, work, relationships, spiritual growth, personal development?

Then within those categories, identify the two or three most important things that would really take your life to the next level, or that area to the next level, that are passionate, that are a yes, that are a must.  It doesn’t mean they’re not all important, but there’s always one or two or three that are really calling out to be developed. Rarely are all of them urgently needing to be developed, and what happens is that when you focus on the one or two or three that really matter, that are hell yeses, the ramifications, because it’s really holistic, it’s really one, it impacts the others. For example, some of them have higher leverage. If you work on your health and get into great physical shape, the energy you have, the blood circulation, it improves your thinking. You end up having more energy to do more work. You end up having a better emotional state, and it improves your relationships. You end up having more clarity, and you’re able to be more creative and in your personal develop area. That’s a very high leverage category that almost always should be one of your main categories.

As you break down this list, you want to just go through the list as an exercise, and discover what are your reasons for doing everything you do. Start to notice there are certain patterns that keep recurring: “I’m doing this so I don’t look bad… I’m doing this so I don’t feel guilty… I’m doing this so I don’t feel shame… I’m doing this so I don’t lose the job or lose the opportunity… I’m doing this so that that person doesn’t think I’m selfish or a bad mom or a bad parent…”

Then notice also, what is it you really want to do? This can even be another list of the things you really want to do, but you’re not doing. You can start to really see what are some of the core patterns driving you. The more you see it, an expanded awareness gives you actual real choice and begins the process of real change.

Now, begin the process of organizing out of your plan all of these other commitments, all of these other things, to the extent that you can. The ones you can’t, immediately begin the journey or the process of renegotiating those commitments, so that you can begin to get them off your list and off your plan. Ultimately, you want a plan that progressively reflects who you are at the deepest core, your deepest yes, your deepest passion, your hell yes, your musts, the great, not just the good, and it feels more and more authentic and congruent.

Now you’ve got a plan, a real plan that if you don’t already know what your bigger vision is, it’s going to start to tune your more into it.

To support you in mastering this, listen to the in-depth podcast on the subject, where we break it down and put it into real-life practice TODAY. This will be a real game-changer.

[The following is the full transcript of this episode of the Emergence, A Revolutionary Path for Radical Life Change, with Derek Rydall Podcast]

Welcome, Derek Rydall here, founder of the Law of Emergence and author of the bestselling book Emergence. It’s just such an honor and a pleasure to be here with you on this journey of Emergence, as we continue this deep dive into understanding and mastering the principles of real productivity, power, and purpose, so that we can live our true purpose and make a mighty impact in this world. We’re talking today about the topic What Should I Do, and this is such a powerful topic. It’s such an oft asked question. I have so many things that I’m doing, what should I pick? What should I choose? Out of all the options, what should I do? Sometimes the question is being asked unconsciously, we are doing so much, and we’re feeling burnt out or overwhelmed and drained and lacking inspiration and passion, and the unconscious question trying to be asked is, what should I do? What should I be focused on? What really matters? What’s really going to move the needle?

We get so used to being busy that we don’t take care of the real business, that we don’t create real productivity. We are so used to reacting and putting out fires and meeting everybody else’s needs and agendas, your inbox is a nice organizing place for everybody else’s agenda, and we just get so used to that and in such a momentum of that, and even sometimes you feel like you matter, you feel like you exist. It’s the great Descartes, I think, therefore I am. Today it would be, I’m busy, therefore I am. So we have a sense of self, a sense of we exist, we have solidity, and we matter, when we’re busy. You hear people constantly, How’s it going?I’m so busy. It’s like a badge of honor, even though on one level we don’t feel great about it, but we feel kind of good about it. It’s this interesting dichotomy, right?

Ultimately, if we really want to live a powerful, thriving, healthy, truly successful life, and by success I mean doing the thing you’re truly designed to do and be, making the contribution and giving the gifts you’re truly designed to give. The apple tree is designed to produce the fruit of apples. If the apple tree was busy trying to be a pine tree and an oak tree and a rosebush, and it was getting all in the other trees and branches and trying to create all these things in its life, even if it managed to eke out a little rose, of course it would be impossible. Nature can’t actually contradict its own nature, but we can fool ourselves. If the ecosystem started to act like that, the entire ecosystem would collapse. There is something you are designed to be, to do, to create, to contribute. There’s a way you’re designed to show up in the world that is uniquely your design, and it comes with unique goals, projects, relationships, tasks, ways to show up, ways to serve, etc. It’s all part of the design package.

Again, mostly our schedules and lives get filled with reactions, with coping mechanisms, with trying to not get hurt or not lose something, or make sure we have enough to survive, or doing all these things for other people, because we have a shadow, and we don’t want to be looked at as being mean or selfish or a bad boy and girl, and we’re afraid we’ll get rejected and be unlovable and be all alone and homeless, broke and die. So like literally that’s the unconscious motivation. We have to begin to identify that compulsive drive, because it’s not healthy. It’s not helping. It’s actually enabling others in our lives to also not be in their power, and it’s completely draining us and burning us out and sapping all of the energy we need to be who we really are, to create the life we’re really meant to live, and to give the gifts and make the difference we’re really designed to do.

So we come back to, what should I do? What should I do with my life? What should I do with my day, my time, my year, my body, my abilities, my energy? What’s the very best use of it? Now, it’s beyond the scope of this particular podcast to get into the idea of vision. Ultimately you have to start there. There’s other podcasts where I talk about how to tap into that, but there is a great vision, a seed of potential planted in the soil of your soul, that you want to begin to really cultivate and uncover and discover, and really ask, what is the great vision of my life? What is the bigger purpose for which I’m here? That’s the 30,000 foot level. Down more at the 1,000 foot level, or the 100 foot level, or the ground level, our life is filled with so many things. For many of us we’ve kind of got to start there and sort of get some breathing room again.

You’ve maybe heard this saying, that the good is the enemy of the great. What that means, for example, is maybe you get invited to go out with some friends, and it seems like a good idea. It might be fun, and you find yourself at the bar or the club or wherever, and you’re sitting there, and people are having fun. It’s not a bad thing to be doing. It’s fun. It’s enjoyable for a lot of people, but you kind of find yourself wondering, what am I doing here? I’m telling myself I don’t have time to exercise, my body’s feeling broken down and tired. I’m not making time for that, but here I am appeasing a friend, or distracting myself by going out. I’ve been saying I want to have more time with this other friend, or I want to be writing my book or building my business, but here I am doing this thing. I don’t really belong here.

Again, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Maybe it’s like a charitable event, like a fundraiser for the school or something. It’s not a bad thing. In fact, for some people that is their great thing. That is the thing they’re really truly passionate and meant to be doing. So there’s no judgment, but it’s not your thing. You can’t do everything, even every good thing. There is supposedly a passage in the Bible where Jesus is being asked to stay in this one area, and he’s like, No. I have to go to some other town. I have to keep spreading the good news. They’re like, Stay. He’s like, No. I have more work to do. I have to keep moving. There’s lots of things you could be doing. There’s lots of people that could use your help, your service, your support, including your children 24/7, your partner, your spouse, your clients, your friends, your family. There’s lot of things you could be doing to help them all, but that doesn’t mean you should be doing it.

Because of guilt and shame and our core shadows, we have a life not so much by intention or design, but by default. We’re so busy doing all these good things, and sometimes not even good things, because we’re doing so many things that aren’t the great things, the right things, we are, like I said, tired, overwhelmed, feeling more disconnected, unfulfilled, and then we have to turn to things to quell the pain of feeling so unfulfilled, of feeling so tired. So we drink more caffeinated beverages, or worse. We drink more alcohol. We drink stuff to put us up, and we drink stuff to bring us down, or eat stuff to ground us or to comfort us, or watch reality TV or binge watch entire shows on a night or a weekend that, again, in and of itself might be a great thing to do in its right place, and for the right person at the right time, but when it’s coming from that compulsive need, or that feeling of pain and unfulfillment, a lot of times it’s another distraction.

Because we’re not honoring the great within us, the truth within us, the real yes within us, we get burned out. We get tired. We get disconnected. We become unfulfilled, even depressed, and then because we don’t understand what that’s all about, or even aren’t willing to feel it, we create another layer of coping and defense mechanisms, and that turns into addictions and other compulsive behaviors to not feel what we’re feeling, that we’re feeling tired, burnt out, depressed, and unfulfilled. So we have to start unraveling that and get back to our core, back to our real yes, back to what we really want to do, what we were really designed to do, and even looking at the good things that other family, friends, and stuff are excited about, but isn’t our great thing. It might be their great thing, but it’s not ours.

I put it another way, what’s working that’s in the way? Sometimes there’s things that appear to be working in our lives, things that seem to be kind of going good. You’ve heard the saying, you got a good thing going here, kid; don’t mess with it. Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke. Well, that’s not entirely accurate. Just because something isn’t broken doesn’t mean that it’s not meant to evolve. Right?

Again, it doesn’t mean you don’t appreciate them and celebrate them. Got another side! I got another side! You’ve got to keep letting it go and moving and evolving. You’ve got a good thing, kid. You’ve got a good thing going, but you’re not truly on fire. You’re not truly alive, fully alive and passionate, and there’s something more that’s trying to emerge. You might have to mess it up a little bit at first in order to say yes to your bigger yes. There might be a lot of good things you’re doing in that job, or good things about that marriage, and maybe you’re doing a lot of good things, but they’re not the great things. Maybe you watch TV together at night, and it’s kind of good. Maybe you have a meal at night, and it’s kind of good. Maybe you spend some time on the weekends, and it’s kind of good, but it’s not the great. It’s not what you really desire. What you desire is a relationship that’s on fire with passion, with romance, with adventure, with creativity, yet to move toward that you would have to start saying no to some of the good things. You would have to start messing up what’s working, and open up to the great, open up to the bigger yes, to the greater vision.

This is challenging, because we’re always seeking another level of status quo, of equilibrium, of balance, and once we find that balance we don’t want to lose it. Off balance, catch yourself, rebalance. Before you learn to do that, you fell. As a child you got up, you fell, you got up, you fell. You just kept falling forward, and eventually you were walking. Because of this mechanism that’s always trying to bring us to a state of equilibrium, of balance, we are more inclined or have more commitment to staying the same, rather than changing and continuing to grow. So that’s one of the big things we have to begin to move out of.

The other issue is, again, as I said in the beginning here, because to really go for the great in our life we would have to say no to a lot of the good, including a lot of good people. Including a lot of sincere requests that are good requests that deserve to be answered. It’s just not our job to answer them all.

There is no way you can do it. You cannot give to every charity. You cannot support every need in the world. You can’t help every hungry child or every scared animal or lost animal. You can’t help every person that asks for it. You just can’t. Not even Jesus could. Not even Mother Teresa could. Not even Martin Luther King could. Not even Gandhi could. There is a portion that is saved out for you. There is the ones, the people, the situations, the projects that you are uniquely designed to serve and to help and to bring your greatness to, and that’s what you have to begin to discover.

This puts you on a journey of real growth, real strength, real mastery, because, again, it puts up right up against our core shadows, our core wounds, our core fears of being seen in a negative way, being rejected, becoming unlovable, losing something, and ultimately dying. It’s really the deep fear. The truth is that less really is more. Doing a few things that are yours to do, that are the right things to do, doing a few things that are a must is much more productive, effective, than doing a bunch of things that are a maybe. As I’ve heard it put before, if it’s not a hell yes, it’s a no. Now, a caveat to that is sometimes even our hell yes is covered up by fear, fear of failure, fear of loss, etc. So it doesn’t feel like a hell yes. There is a yes there, but it’s a got a yes, but. So sometimes we have to clear away some of the debris and ask empowering questions, like if I was guaranteed to succeed, what’s my hell yes in my life? So we have to kind of clear away the dust and grit of the journey. Ultimately you’re looking for those hell yeses, or at least just a yes! The thing that you deeply resonate with the most, the thing you feel will most move the needle, and that doesn’t mean it’s going to always move the needle immediately. It means that overall it’s the most important high leverage thing you can be putting your time into.

In truth, most of the most important things are not urgent. As Stephen Covey talks about in The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, there is the things that are not urgent, but important. That’s the most important category. That’s like dealing with your health, your spirituality, your personal growth, your relationships, before they become urgent. If you don’t deal with the important but not urgent, it becomes urgent and important. That’s the next category. Now you’re kind of always in this state of urgency, but it is important, and we do need to address that, because we have a lot of urgent and important things in our life, because we haven’t spent enough time in the important but not urgent category.

Then, because we get so stressed out or burned out, and it’s so much stuff, there is the next category we tend to slip into, which is the urgent but not important. So that’s everybody else’s agenda that isn’t really ours. Again, it might be important to them, so we’re not judging anybody. It’s just not ours to handle, and yet it has a sense of urgency, because they’re urgent. It’s all those emails. It’s those phone calls. It’s the child pulling on you while you’re on the phone and saying, Mommy, Mommy, I need this. Give me this. I need this. It’s urgent to the child, but it’s not urgent for you.

Then there’s the final category, if you get caught into that third category too much, now you’re really burnt out, and you just need to distract yourself and numb yourself, and so you move into not urgent, not important. You just check out. You just disconnect. You just pop a beer or two or six, and just flop on the couch and watch six hours of Ice Road Truckers, or whatever. Nothing wrong with that show. I’ve never actually watched it. Looks kind of funny. Whatever. Honey Boo Boo, whatever the case may be. The Kardashians. You just check out. It’s not important. It’s not urgent. You’re just so overwhelmed or burnt out you’ve got to check out.

That’s what happens along the spectrum when we haven’t taken the time to discover what is truly the thing or things we’re meant to do, the great, not just the good. The hell yes, the thing I must, not just the thing that’s a maybe. We have to be compassionate. We have to be patient, because there’s some unraveling that has to happen as we kind of work our way back to focusing most of our time and attention on the important but not urgent. There will still be urgent and important for a while, and maybe to a little extent forever, but it will become increasingly less. Then the other categories, urgent and not important, and not urgent, not important, they just become ultimately delegated, automated, or eliminated out of our life. So that we are only in the important but not urgent, and occasionally the urgent and important. We’re mostly on the hell yes, with a little bit of the urgently, oh my God, I have to. We want to be mostly on the I get to, but sometimes we have to focus on I have to.

Now, one way to begin to do this process is to actually make a list of everything you do and everything on your list that you think you have to do. Perhaps it’s the next months’ worth of things, and some of them are things you do all the time, and some of them are things you’re adding to your list over the next month. Look at that list, and start to identify, if I was guaranteed success, what are the few things that would be a hell yes? You can also do this, break it down, in terms of structures, which might be a little easier. You have several life structures, health, wealth, work, relationships, spiritual growth, personal development, service, and you can break down all these tasks into these categories. What are all the things you’re doing in the category of health? What are all the things you’re doing in the category of wealth, work, relationships, spiritual growth, personal development?

Now, personal development means things where you’re developing your personal skills and capacities like, learning to ride a bike, learning to play the guitar, learning to write a book, learning to become a coach, learning to grow a business. That’s personal development. It also is connected to work, but it’s not the actual work. It’s the development of that aspect of your persona. Okay? Then there’s service, and that is the area where you are giving of yourself philanthropically, or of service to the world. Sometimes these things connect. Your work ultimately can also be your service. You can be developing your personal development, being of service, and accomplishing your work all together, and that produces your wealth, etc. You see what I mean? Breaking them up into categories, and then putting all those to-dos, projects, tasks, within the right category gives you a cleaner snapshot of what you’re doing or not doing in those very critical categories.

Then, look at the categories, and of those categories, what are the two categories, I would say maximum three for now, to start. You end up having better emotional state, and it improves your relationships. You end up having more clarity, and you’re able to be more creative and in your personal develop area. That’s a very high leverage category that if you don’t have a handle on it it almost always should be one of your main categories.

The second main category tends to be spiritual development, whatever that means to you, because when you don’t have a deep connection with who you really are, and why you’re alive, and your heart, and your spirit, everything else suffers. It’s like a branch trying to survive without being connected to the tree. It withers and dies. Developing a deep connection to your heart, to your spirit, to who you really are, what’s above the Oracle of Delphi, know thyself. Knowing yourself, getting in the best shape you Transcriptioncan, these are like almost always, if they’re not already on good momentum, should be two of the categories you’re focused on.

Then I would say the next most important one is relationships. You know the saying, community breeds immunity. We are relationship driven machines, relationship driven beings. The connection to yourself is first. The connection to your body is second, and then extending that connection to others is third. This is the path of health, of wholeness. When you’re disconnected from others, they’ve shown that many of the suicides, the depression, etc. are directly linked to people who had connections with family, community, or like in the army or whatever, and suddenly lose that bond, lose that connection and fall into depression and ultimately addiction, drugs, and even suicide. Also they’ve shown that when you have community you tend to heal faster and not get sick as often. Real authentic relationships is, again, super high leverage. When you’re in love, you can conquer the world.

So when you are feeling great about yourself, feeling great about your body, and feeling loved and loving, you’re a superstar. You’re able to rock the world. That’s why those are the three probably most important categories. As I said, they’re all critical, because each one is necessary to a whole person, but each one that extends, so from there the next level is work, your right work in the world. If you’ve got all these things, but you’re not producing the fruit of your kind, you will stagnate, and then it will back up and start to suffer all the other branches of your life. So you have to then move to the next level, work, and on and on this goes. So you can look at this, and you can actually decide for yourself what are the areas that are most critical? What are the areas that would move the needle most?

Then within those one or two or three, let’s say two or three areas, you look at the two or three activities. Maybe it’s a project or some tasks that you then identify as your hell yes, as the must, not the maybe, as the great, not just the good. For example, in the area of health, maybe you’re taking yoga, you’re working out at the gym, you are running. Maybe you’re doing a bunch of things, and you’re spending two hours a day on your health, and it’s not necessary. Maybe if you just spent a full hour in one area that would actually give you the greatest leverage. You might discover you’re not spending much time at all there, and meanwhile you’re spending all this time at work, or all this time trying to make money, or all this time trying to put out fires in relationships, and that area is sacrificed, is suffering. You want to find, what’s the one thing I could do that is really a must, that’s really a hell yes, that would really give me a lot of leverage, the great, not just the good? So you identify that.

You might notice that there’s some things you can let go of within that category that is not necessary, and then the area, again, of relationships, maybe you’re trying to keep up 10 different friendships and 10 different colleagueships, and you’re networking, and always thinking you got to keep the network going. All this energy, and meanwhile your relationship with your wife is suffering, or your relationship with your children is not as joyful and thriving, and when you look at all these things, you realize it’s a good idea to keep up my network. It’s a good idea to keep being a good friend to all my friends, but what’s the great? What’s the must? If I could have really awesome relationship with my children, or with my best friend, or with this one best friend, or with my partner, maybe it’s my child, my partner, and my best friend. Let me, instead of trying to keep relationships going with 20 people, let me really focus on making great relationships with these three people. That doesn’t mean you just completely cut yourself off from all these people, however it might in some cases, if you really look at it.

You might realize you’re operating from a place of fear, a fear of missing out, a fear of feeling bad, of being guilty, of creating conflict, of getting kicked out of that club, or not being able to get another client because of it. So you want to notice when you’re being moved by fear, by a shadow, a compulsive behavior, versus being pulled by passion and vision and inspiration. If it’s being moved by fear, you want to look and see what is the reason why? If it’s not something that really adds true value to your life, that there’s something else that’s much more valuable. It’s not just, well the mother’s will think I’m a bad mother if I don’t go to every PTA meeting, or if I don’t go to the student car washes every time, or bake the pies or whatever. You’re like, I’m only doing this because I don’t want to look bad. I’m only doing this because I don’t want them to not like me, but I don’t really want to do it. It’s not really the thing I bring the most value to or the thing I can bring the greatest level of joy and love and passion and capacity for my children. So what would be that thing? You see?

As you break down this list, you want to just go through the list as an exercise, and discover what are your reasons for doing everything you do? Start to notice there are certain patterns that keep recurring. I’m doing this so I don’t look bad. I’m doing this so I don’t feel guilty. I’m doing this so I don’t feel shame. I’m doing this so I don’t lose the job or lose the opportunity. I’m doing this so that that person doesn’t think I’m selfish or a bad mom or a bad parent. I’m doing this because I don’t want to lose. I’m doing this because I’m afraid. Then notice also, what do I really want to do? This can even be another list of the things you really want to do, but you’re not doing. Then you can make a list, I’m not doing this because I’m afraid. You can start to really see what are some of the core patterns driving you. The more you see it, an expanded awareness gives you actual real choice and begins the process of real change.

Make the list. Break it down into these categories: health, wealth, work, relationship, spirituality, personal growth or personal development, and service. Identify within that list what are all the reasons why you’re doing it, so you can understand your patterns, and then what are the two or three categories that are a must, not a maybe, that are a hell yes, not just a maybe. Then within those categories, identify the two or three most important things that would really take your life to the next level, or that area to the next level, that are passionate, that are a yes, that are a must. Now organize that into your plan. Begin the process of organizing out of your plan all of these other commitments, all of these other things, to the extent that you can, and the ones you can’t, immediately begin the journey or the process of renegotiating those commitments, so that you can begin to get them off your list and off your plan. So that your plan progressively reflects who you are in the deepest core, your deepest yes, your deepest passion, your hell yes, your musts, the great, not just the good, and it feels more and more authentic and congruent. Now you’ve got a plan, a real plan that if you don’t already know what your bigger vision is, it’s going to start to tune your more into it.

That’s why really doing the work on vision is so important, because if you don’t know where you’re going, every road will take you there, which means you could go down every road, and you’re just going to be lost. Knowing really where you want to go, like where do you really want to go with your family, with your relationships, with your body, with your wealth, with your life and your commitment and your contribution? Where do you really want to go at the end of the year? Where do you really want to go at the end of five years? Where do you really want to be at the end of a life? Then reverse engineer that back as a template, as a North Star, as a compass. If that’s where I really want to go, am I heading in that direction? If the things I’m doing and that are on my to-do list and my plan are not, guess where they have to go? Somewhere else.

Now you identify, and you start to organize this plan, and then, and don’t freak out, you have to put it on your schedule. Some of you have full schedules, and that’s not a problem. Your problem is just the things on your schedule are keeping you busy, but they’re not necessarily making you productive. For those others of you, heart-centered, creatively-minded people, you don’t tend to have a real schedule or real plan. You just kind of go with the flow, but, as I often say, if you just go with the flow, you’re going to probably end up going over a waterfall and crashing into the rocks below, or getting stuck in some branches or brambles or crashing into a rock. Going with the flow isn’t a good idea, because you don’t know what flow you’re going with, until you do know. It’s go with the flow, but don’t forget to row. Row, row, flow, flow, row, row, flow, flow. For you people that love to flow, don’t forget to row.

How do you know where to row? You’ve got to know where you’re going. Got to know where to go before you know where to row. I feel like I’m going to start breaking into a rap here. You’ve got to have a plan. You’ve got to have a vision. Then you’ve got to put it on your schedule. Then you do it. That’s a whole other topic. There’s other podcasts that talk about why we don’t do what we’ve committed to, the value of commitment. It’s beyond the scope of this. This is more than enough to play with, and it’s so important, because this is one of the biggest questions. What should I do? Out of all the choices and options, what should I do? What’s the right thing, the right direction, the best thing, the thing that will really move my life, move the needle, take things to the next level?

Listen to this again. Take notes, and follow the recipe. Again, if you want to go deeper into vision, into understanding commitment and planning, go through the archives of the podcast and check those out as well. While we’re talking about that, if you haven’t already signed up for the podcast, sign up. It’s free. You get access to about a hundred free trainings. I’m adding new ones every week, and it’s an invaluable resource. You can download all of them right away so they’re in your library, and that way as we archive them, which we are doing on an ongoing basis, I think every week, as a matter of fact, at least one or two of them gets archived, and we’re eventually going to archive a whole bunch of them. So register, download all of them. Now you own them. Listen, and apply. Choose at least one thing you’ll do about this today. Action has power.

I hope this has served you in getting clearer on what you should do. If you want to have even more support, you can go to DerekRydall.com. You can also check out my Facebook page. You can go to LawofEmergence.com and download a free mini ecourse on the Law of Emergence. If you want to grab my book Emergence, the bestseller, you can also go to MyEmergenceBook, click on the Amazon or Barnes and Noble button, buy it through there, and then leave your information, and we’re going to give you a bunch of bonuses to help you really apply it and get real world results. Again, I truly love and appreciate you for showing up, not just showing up for me, but showing up for you, because as you show up for you, you come alive, and what the world is looking for is people who have come alive. Until next time, remember to live authentically, to love unconditionally, and to follow your destiny. Take care, everyone.
